The Facts About This...

The article that Phone Scoop shows doesn't say this but VZW's QCHAT will not interact with Sprint's QCHAT or Nextel's iDEN network. This means that VZW will have a VERY small amount of PTT users unless somehow they can strike a deal with Sprint, VERY UNLIKELY.

Sprint's QCHAT will be able to PTT Nextel users, which is where the overwhelming majority of PTT users are.

Right but with a million customers a quarter fleeing, Verizon can capture a lot of the market share.

UHHHHH DO I EVEN NEED TO SAY THIS??

NOBODY is leaving Spring because another carrier has better PTT, and theyre more likely to just come back when they see that along with downright SAD data offerings, nobody but NOBODY offers PTT to par with Sprint Nextel.

Whether it works or not, very doubtful that the two companies will allow it.

SouthernLinc and Nextel are both iDEN PTT networks and could conceivably communicate via PTT, but there is no agreement in place to allow this for SL and Nextel users.

This has been discussed many times on howardforums. VZW's PTT will not be able to PTT Sprint or Nextel, it's a fact.

AGAIN, and for the last time...

Brewchat is garbage, sure it runs on the same RevA, but wheres the backbone??? Will your brewchat be compatible with IDEN's 20 million customers? NO. like i said NOBODY is or will be up to par with their service offering in terms of overall reliability OR customer base(20 million reasons to go with Sprint Nextel over vzw). Oh, and look for it to cost extra for verizon, its built into ALL of Sprint/Nextel's plans.

Reliability and Sprint do NOT go hand in hand. AGAIN (iden and sprint customers are on there way out) so since verizon and sprint will be on the same playing field, I'll put my money on the smart choice and bet Verizon will continue to scoop up sprint bleeding mess.

They arent on the same field because they still get to dc all of the nextel and powersource customer base, included in the plan. They are not on the same playing field whatsoever. Thanks for your thoughts though

Right, but once Verizon buys Sprint, they'll be ready to distribute PTT handsets to Nextel customers and shut down the iden network within months, something Sprint couldn't do.

Their "open network" is designed to do two things, first, to foster innovation among people looking to bring new ideas to the cellular market, and second, to easily accommodate customers acquired in buyouts. In hindsight, it paved the way to the Alltel bu...

I'm betting that VZ is looking at this service more for the "push to" services availability than just the PTT.

From what i understand, Qchat can let you use the PTT service to send pics, vids, files, messages, and all kinds of other stuff using the PTT network. Thats supposed to be how the Qchat at Sprint will work from what I've read.

Yes they will. They always do.

From what i understand and from what I've read online, Sprint has all kinds of "push to" features waiting to be launched on Qchat. It should be interesting to see how this all works out.

If Sprint was to get their advertising together and market this stuff. Then VZ having is would be a non-issue. But, unfortunately that hasn't happened.

Yup I agree sprint will probably have Dan Hesse walking down some street saying something stupid, as they continue to lose millions. We shall see.

Yes they have push to this and push to that with multimedia and other types of services but the most important is the bridge between the two push to talk networks with IDEN and CDMA. That’s I think the most important function. You also get REV, A which saves Sprint money in the long run, but also you can push through more things/products/services through the pipeline so that data ARPU would start to increase again at a rapid rate.

Verizon has had all kinds of troubles when it comes to PTT so I don’t think that this would be a success either, however, given the fact that Sprint continues to have problems, it could help Verizon and their new PTT offering. It shall be interesting.

Oh yeah, it'll definitely be interesting. I've been looking forward to Qchat ever since i first heard about it along time ago on this site. In fact i think i first heard about it from one of your posts a long time ago.

Truly bridging CDMA and iDEN i think will be much better than the hybrid phones. They were a good idea, but these new phones should be sooo much better. Plus getting the other manufactures involved will hopefully get Moto to improve on their offerings for Sprint as well.

Only time will tell. Hopefully Sprint can fix things so that this new VZ PTT offering will be as successful as the last time they offered it. That would be a good sign for Sprint.

I agree. having the dual mode phones are good but the Qchat and the bridge is better. Perhaps if they would have done that first they would have been more successful. Another failure by Sprint.

Was no one aware taht you could send media via IDEN as well? 😕

I knew that you could.

But now imagine sending bigger and nicer pictures, video, songs and whatever other files that they will allow.

It's just going to expand and improve on what iDEN was capable of doing. Qchat is the next generation of iDEN if i remember properly.
