Sprints hero should have Version 1.6 already.

Android 1.5 and lower isn't compatible with CDMA networks so the Sprint Version has to be 1.6 already.

Stock Android, perhaps, but HTC customizes the heck out of their phone OSes. They claim to have more Android developers than anyone but Google. They add a lot of things to Android on their own phones without waiting for Google to add it to the generic version.

That kinda sucks if you ask me. I was looking forward to the newer Android Market software as well as a Vista Like search tool.

According to all the reviewers, this is still v1.5 cupcake right now. Which is exciting for the prospect of v1.6 Donut near launch time. There are a lot of improvements in Donut.

Regardless of version, will the Hero be capable of OTA updates for future versions beyond donut?

It is very likely that they will offer a 1.6 upgrade for the Sprint Hero. But since it was JUST released by Google, it will take some time for HTC to take that, integrate it with their Sense software, tailor a version for the Hero, test and release it.
