We all know nextel is going away, I have been playing around with this por-series for a few days, it can "beep" nextel. Its the perfect merger. There will be no selling of nextel, Why would they? and more impotantly, who would buy it?

Oh oh, pick me. I'll buy it.

It's a good thing I can afford it. Even with my little paycheck.

You may be getting that push to talk on your Non-Nextel phone, but the network is inferior. The Nextel network is freaking huge for being analog, and runs better than any of the other ones.

Did you read the article?

"Morgan O'Brien, founder of Nextel and Cyren Call, is now seeking partners to buy the Nextel network from Sprint and use it, in part, to help build a nationwide public safety network."

Who WOULD REALLY buy a Nextel phone? I mean where are all the iDEN fanboys? And what would be your reasons for wanting to stay with the iDEN network?

I really want to know actually...

its kinda ignorant to believe that just because no one jumps on message boards and battles others in defence of a network that there aren't any fanboys.

As a sprint rep I know that the majority of users for nextel phones are the ruff-and tumble construction workers, hunters, truck drivers, ect.

The ones that aren't tech savy but need a heavy duty phone with a walkie talkie.
So I'm sure they're not the type to jump on a phone website and battle it out.

But there are a lot of people that like nextel, they are great GPS phones too, better then sprint in my opinion, and WAY more dorable.

Just because you can't get on a watch TV or use it as an MP3 and it's not a touch with a gazillion features doesn't mean no body want its.

As a Sprint rep myself, I can appreciate iDEN phones for what they are... EXTREMELY well built phones. HOWEVER... at what point do we ask ourselves if thats enough? Better GPS? I'd say thats up for speculation... and I personally would have to disagree with that (I think they're equal). I guess I'm just wanting others to refresh my memory about WHY iDEN is still a beneficial network at this point. I'm just not seeing it. 😳 ... sorry

Iden phones are for hunters, construction workers etc... That still isnt enough to keep iden around...

hell any company can dumb down their phones and make them bulky for slow folks, thats not hard. and when u turn it on "18888888888" lights up lol thats easy hell I can make that... and give it a solar power calculator's interface... 🤣

Let's be honest does anyone really need a cell phone? No, but we all have them and why? I mean do you really need to be able to check your MySpace page from your cell phone? You'll never understand the capability of a Nextel phone because it's not for you. Just like dvd players aren't for my grandparents. In an emergency situation what would you rather have a one push connection with your love ones or wait on the other end while some silly remix of la vida loca plays. Or let's say you have to get 20 people to act in unison across several several cities or even states. Group connect let's you do it. And with Talkgroup services group sizes can reach up to 200 pre-set groups. You don't have to call up your service men one at a time ...

Thats all fine and good, and those are GREAT features that I sincerely value... but here's the deal...

Q-CHAT IS COMING!!! We have officially accomplished the same features (with a little extra) through a data network now! So again... what does iDEN have that can't be offered through other means now?

iDEN is in a lot more places than q-chat and iden phones have off-network capabilities. 😛

So... I'm a sprint rep and what i understand is that the Q-chat is over the cdma network through a VoIP system i believe. something of the sorts. so technically couldn't sprint just keep that technology for sprint phones and produce more Qchat enabled phones?

I've been saying for a couple of years now that the bone heads in charge of Sprint screwed up the best deal in wireless. Nextel had the highest ARPU, the highest retention rate, and the lowest churn in the industry. What any company needs to do is move the iden network forward, add some good customer service and go back to what Nextel was with the verticals and the account people in the field. They will beat Sprint like Sprint owes them some money one more time!!

The problem is Nextel got in over their heads, they spent too much and didn't earn it back... So yeah everyone always talks about how great Nextel used to be and everything should go back to how they used to do things, but then fail to see the big picture:

NEXTEL FAILED! THEY SOLD THEMSELVES! Clearly something wasn't working or else Nextel would STILL BE AROUND! Right?
