voice and data are here, and play mobile internet happily 🤣 🤣 🤣
Of course, I am with AT&T, however, it would seem strange that T-Mo wouldn't launch 3G in ABQ, as there are still considerably more T-Mobile users in ABQ than AT&T users, although that is slowly balancing out now. AT&T has made so many improvements in the Albuquerque area, including superior coverage and 3G.
Currently, I would say that Sprint is currently the weakest carrier in the Albuquerque area. Perhaps not in terms of coverage, but in terms of subscribers. I have actually seen more people in ABQ on Qwest (a Sprint MVNO) than on Sprint themselves. Verizon and Cricket are also popular here. Sprint has been losing subscribers at an alarming rate; I don't think they have gained any market sh...

i think they are going for maximum coverage with minimal towers. there just arent enough people in ALBQ for it to be in the top 20.
However, perhaps why it may take T-Mobile longer than AT&T to launch 3G here in ABQ is because of the 1700 MHz frequency, which will probably require more new equipment than on the 1900 band (the 3G frequency used by AT&T here in ABQ). There are no 1700 MHz carriers here in ABQ at this time.
T-Mobile has been in the Albuquerque market much longer than AT&T has. They were ABQ's first GSM provider. For AT&T/Cingular, Albuquerque is a former AT&T Wirless (Blue) market. Initially when AT&T Wireless first launched their network here, they built a few TDMA towers. However, they rushed to laun...

I was talking about Cingular buying out the old AT&T Wireless, not AT&T a.k.a. Ma Bell. Albuquerque is a former AT&T Wireless coverage area.
Cingular's larger parent company, SBC Communications, soon bought out Ma Bell AT&T and kept the AT&T name. Soon afterward, the new AT&T bought out Cingular's other owner, BellSouth, and gained full control of Cingular. With the new AT&T as the full owner, the wireless division was renamed AT&T Mobility.
I can't wait till I can sit at the bar watching Comedy Central on my phone!!
Haha
I am expecting that El Paso will get AT&T 3G coverage by the end of the year, as AT&T has stated their 3G coverage will cover over 350 markets by the end of 2008. However, I don't know whether the El Paso 3G coverage will include Las Cruces.
Albuquerque's AT&T 3G coverage does not yet extend up to Santa Fe, and also doesn't include the suburubs to the south (i.e. Los Lunas and Belen).
As for T-Mobile 3G coverage in Las Cruces, you are probably going to have to wait a while. Most likely Albuquerque will get T-Mobile 3G coverage before Las Cruces does.
Albuquerque, NM (mentioned this in a previous post)
Virginia Beach/Norfolk, VA
Jacksonville, FL
Pittsburgh, PA
Baltimore, MD
Richmond, VA
Also, there are a few markets where they still need to integrate the SunCom customers, so 3G probably won't be available in the following markets for a while:
Raleigh/Durham, NC
Charlotte, NC
San Juan, Puerto Rico
since t-mobile considers their stronghold the west coast, we'll probably see 3G launch there more than anywhere else.
