I seriously don't get the point. Why not just make a regular phone call to the person you want to talk to?

Are you questioning the point of this new system, or PTT calling in general?

There is no questioning of the new system its still pointless. Direct connect,come on its called speaker phone and speed dial why is sprint still wasting money on this no wonder they lost all there government contracts.

Obviously, you've never used Direct Connect.

The purpose of a walkie-talkie of any kind is this: instant communication. A cellphone is like using dial-up internet by comparison. Direct Connect is NOT speaker-phone and speed dialing. In fact, you don't even have to use the phone's speaker when placing a DC call. You can mute it and have a private conversation over the radio, just like a phone call.

The assumption here is that the person you contact via PTT actually wants to be contacted in this manner at the given moment. I can see great potential for creating awkward and embarrassing situations with PTT.

Well, to stay on the topic, I was talking about this new system. I would go as far as question the point of PTT for consumers (unlike businesses) in general, but that's a separate discussion.
