I guarantee that there will be fights on planes when this goes into affect. You put an edgy, nervous flyer next to a loud, obnoxious cell phone talker and you are going to get Jerry Springer action, hard core. Just hope they do not bring extra batteries or their extended battery on the trip.
Leave your cell phone off, enjoy not being contacted for the duration of your flight and I promise your phone will work when you land.

Its general, public air travel folks. Its a bus. If you don't like it, charter a jet. It will be a bit quieter.
Besides, any cell provider putting these cells on planes are going to have to still cover their costs. air-to-ground or satellite systems will cost a lot of money to complete a call. Its going to be business as usual. Those little $2 handsets you see on the back of the seat are not costing you $1.99/minute, its the backhaul.
The economy of making a call on a plane will probably keep the cabin as quiet as it was before ...
