Review: Nokia N97
Nothing about this seems "Latest and Greatest"
I don't see too many people plunking down $700.00 for a device that gets burned by a $100.00 iPhone.
For as much as the iPhone is dominating the phone scene, Companies should either look to do something totally different to draw attention away, or improve on the things that work well with it, rather than doing half-assed versions. Whether we like it or not, the iPhone has begun to set some serious standards for the functionality of user interfaces and functionality. Suck it up companies, and adapt.
Nice camera though. :-P
Who would pay$700 for a phone that scrolled so choppy surfing the web? You would be better off getting a free nokia 2600 and a netbook and still pay less than the $700 price tag for the n97!

You actually paid $700 for this phone? Why would you admit to that? 😲
Actually I paid $559 at Dell. I sold two upgrade 3Gs 32Gb for $1400!! and am saving another $240 a year not paying the extra $20 Internet Apple tax for a similar web experience with flash!!! Instead my wife and I pay $10 each for unlimited Internet on an N95 and N97....
You can keep the iPhone. Let me know when BT works for more than headphones....or a16:9 video camera.....or drag and drop file transfer...or a replaceable battery and extended memory.....or voice GPS....and on and on......
So you go right ahead and pay Johnny Appleseed for your slick GUI...and slippery phone.

Where did I say that?
and i agree its not worth the $700 price when u can just get an iphone for $100 now. nokia should have put a lil more work into this one. i had high phone from comparing this to the ihpone storm and my phone the tilt. but after reading erics review i think ill leave this one on the shelf.
I don't want the Nokia to be an iPhone. I like S60 and the familiarity associated with it. Nokia did a nice job and the first offering of FW really smoothed out some inev...

This just seems like a giant stale device from Nokia. They once had the most advanced smartphone platform in existence, and now I'd rank them 4th.. or even 5th. I mean c'mon, how does such a crappy UI even get green lit? They didn't even try.

Thats funny...I had a 3GS for a week now and sold it for the N97....
NO Mass Storage
NO BT file tranfers
NOT worth 3X the internet data package of the N97 $10 vs $30!!!
No replacable battery
No FM radio
No BT printing
Have to use iTunes to do anything.
Pinhole camera lens no LEDs
No real keyboard
No immediate sharing of photos and ...

Who really needs mass storage out of their phone? Like... really? On your phone?
Why do people keep complaining about the lack of SD cards with more than sufficient internal capacity, in which you can store much larger (and more stable) amount of apps/games?
Whats the deal with people digging physical keyboards? I feel like it's wasted hardware. I'm paying for a keyboard when I have a touch screen phone? Bah! F that noise.
Why do we care about the replaceable battery? The battery lasts better than most phones (including my G1, which I honestly kinda regret buying).
Who cares how small the lense is, it works damn well, and it has taken more than decent photos since the beginning.
What's wron...

Why does everyone feel the need to compare every phone to the iPhone? I like the iPhone. A lot. I don't own one because I do not want to pay a higher monthly fee when I can get most of the same things for far cheaper using other phones.
I also love how so many Apple fanboys (bluecoyote in this thread) keep using the rhetoric of how a $700 N97 cannot do what what a $100 iPhone can do, but a) don't mention what the N97 can do that the iPhone cannot; and b) conveniently avoid the additional costs the iPhone incurs due to requiring a contract.
To that end, why does anyone else care what phone I am using? I am not a phone novice (anyone using an N97 really should not be...
