People like WiMax. The word has been marketed very well. Its too bad the technology is absolute garbage.
I think investors like hearing WiMax...but i cant wait until they *really* find out what it is so all this nonsense will end.

Depends on the version. 802.16a has real problems keeping up with moving objects and so is not usable for mobile applications. Sprint is using 802.16e which has none of the ill effects of 802.11a.
Basically Wimax technology is very similar to the technology used in wireless routers (802.11g) Wi-fi is extremelely reliable and has been very well received. The fact that it is built into every laptop speaks volumes.
The technology itself is fine. Its development is more for data than for voice. It is a way to remove the wire from the internet and cut out the cable and DSL companies.

can you explain why it is garbage? From what i have read so far looks like its going to be great. Faster than ANYTHING currently deployed by any other carrier here in the US. Sounds like you're locked into a carrier other than sprint 😉 and sad to hear that sprint is going to be 2-3 years ahead of the network your currently on.

Dam did Sprint physically molest you? All your comments have been negative towards Sprint without any factual basis.
If it wasn't clear for you.. (assuming that the roll out will be on schedule) Wimax will be available in major markets by the end of the year. By the end of the year what will ATT, Tmobile, and Verizon have? LTE is at least 2-3 years away from any major roll outs in the US.
So.. while im enjoying faster data... ATT, Tmobile, And Verizon customers will still be on SLOWER networks. and if when LTE...

I would have to agree in general. I wouldn't call wimax 'garbage' per se. From a technical standpoint, it is not the best long-term solution but the company needs an immediate solution and wimax is that. While LTE is the better long-term solution, it is a good 2-3 years out from deployment in the US. That said, existing HSPA networks have theoretical peak rates that will meet or exceed wimax wave 1. And it can be done in smaller radio channels to boot. HSPA+ using MIMO will exceed wave 2 of wimax. These are simple upgrades on existing hardware for HSPA operators (ATT). Expect these upgrades to occur around the time wimax becomes commercially available. They arn't just waiting for LTE. Wimax is a highly advanced technology that will be great ...
