Not exactly, at least that's not been my experience in the short time I've had my 3GS, I've had no prior experience with iPhones.
The catch-phrase that seems to be kicked around is 'no 3rd party multitasking'. Apple's stuff in ROM seems to multitask OK, but not the apps I've been buying. If I'm playing music files in the IPOD software, and press the home button to run something else, the music continues.
Being a paying subscriber to DI.fm; I purchased Normsoft's Pocket Tunes for internet radio streaming, something the IPOD software won't do. The program works great, but when I press the home button, it exits Pocket Tunes completely -- no option to do otherwise. Can be annoying when you get a text, new email, etc and want to check it...
There's also nothing that takes you back-to-what-you-were-doing when you exit something.
Would be great if I could just stream my subcription via iPod or iTunes on the device, no suck luck though.
I still really like the device though -- can't believe I haven't experienced a crash, lockup, slowed-to-a-crawl stuff that happens frequently with Windows Mobile.
