Doesn't seem like you really spent a lot of time getting in-depth experience with the new device... Very opinionated, not very comprehensive.
In the inbox, or any mail folder, you can now multi-select messages for deletion, moving to other folders, etc. That's an important new feature readers might like to know about.
You missed the variable-speed advancing through audio files in the media player.
You described the coating on the screen as something to make it smudge-proof. Actually, it's there to make the smudges easily wipe off. Works pretty well. Now, wiping with a sleeve, your pant-let, or a soft cloth actually produces a clean screen instead of just smearing all that grease around.
Something worth your mentioning regard...

I say: How the hell was this piece opinionated? We presented the good and the bad as a matter of fact. Opinionated would have been to say "Rah, rah, rah, the iPhone is perfect!" or "Wow, the iPhone totally sucks!" Also we spent ALL WEEKEND with it. In fact, I worked through Father's Day, rather than spending the entire day with my family, to bring you an in-depth report. In fact, we spent more time with it compared to those who posted reviews Friday night.

It is pointless to argue with an elite iPhone fan. Nothing else matters to them, and anything negative about thier precious device must be biased and unfactual!!

Not exactly... I've been a WinMo user since it first came out in the form of a clamshell device from HP running WindowsCE -- have upgraded to each new class of WM devices since. The 3GS is my first iPhone, and I'm quite enjoying it. Am able to keep my Hosted Exchange service, and interestingly -- it performs better (faster push) on the iPhone than on any of my WM devices. HandBase was the last holdout for me, couldn't consider an iPhone without it -- now that it's available, couldn't resist 🙂

I am not dissing the iPhone, or anyone who uses it, just the people who say a reviewer is bad because they didn't give the device a perfect score and people who think the iPhone is the ultimate phone and does everything better than any thing else out there, and anyone who doesn't like the iPhone is stupid.
Yes the iPhone does a lot of things great, and is quite fast especially over a WM device, but I don't think I could live without my multi-tasking.. Do love the Safari browswer, and when my year is up might switch over to WebOS.
iPhone is not for me, but I am glad you are enjoying it while still keeping a level head.

oh you did wright the first message... oh well. Well I guess the reason you didn't know about the other stuff was like you said, the 3Gs is your first iPhone.

It was an excellent review, Eric. Seriously. I (and I'm sure many others here) appreciate all the work you guys put into this site, especially when you go above and beyond like on reviews like this one.
I don't think anyone would expect you to work through the weekend (let alone Father's Day) to get us the review so quickly, but as one who was eagerly awaiting it, I have to say I appreciate you doing so!

It's not the goal of our reviews to list and describe every single feature. Apple's web site and other materials are a better place for that. We use it as extensively as we can (in this case, in a limited amount of time) and report on the features that stand out to us as particularly good, bad, or notable. Apple can tell you the features, but you need a review to tell you how well they work. We focus on the things we feel will help people make a purchasing decision.
For example, yes, you can now select things from a list to batch delete, etc. We covered that in a few places (gallery, messaging) but what stood out to us most was that you can't do this in the call log, so we were sure to mention that.

good point, and yes, very good reveiw, showed why the iPhone 3Gs is a good phone, but also managed to point out the flaws, especially ones that might matter to some people looking to maybe switch over to the Apple device.
