On the Curve you can surf with WiFi. Truth be told, I haven't tried or heard of the other handsets working that way.
Your Lynksys router will work, but be aware that T-Mobile does provide you with a free Linksys router (after $50 M.I.R.)
The advantage of the T-Mo router is that is has software built in to maximize battery life when you're talking on the Wi-Fi network, where as your current Lynksys does not, so battery life may not be what you're used to or expecting.
