Enough of AT&T...

Is anyone else had enough of AT&T's monopoly on the iPhone? It's great that the iPhone is now at a price point that the average joe can afford, but paying an additional $30 a month is just AT&T's way of sticking it to their loyal customers. I don't think that millions of their customers are going to to turn over to the iphone. If apple really wants to bust into the cellular phone market they need to create a CDMA version and have some REAL compition between carriers. If they continue their exclusivity with AT&T for another year or two, then I'm afraid we will be seeing a slow death of Apples beloved cash cow.

... unless you include Sprint, which has a much lower data rate when you consider it includes unlimited messaging, for which AT&T charges an additional $20.

Um...no.

Sprint Smart phone plan including:
450 minutes
Unlimited nights an weekends
7-7 Nights and weekends
Unlimited Text
Unlimited data:

$69.99

ATT Smart phone plan including:
450 minutes
Unlimited nights an weekends
7-7 Nights and weekends
Unlimited Text
Unlimited data:

$107.98

That $37+ dollar difference is the major reason i don't have an iPhone.

If the phone did not require a data plan, most of the features on it would need to be crippled, and the price point would be A LOT higher (think $500). The reason they can have the phone for so low is because the cost is subsidized by the data plan.

The phone would require a data plan on Verizon's, Tmobiles, and Sprint's network (and any regional carrier for that matter) It would also require smartphone level data packages, not something like Verizon's Vcast because of the data it can use.

If you don't want the data package, you shouldn't want an iphone. get the Ipod Touch and a basic flip phone and you are set. Seriously, if the Average Joe doesn't want a data package, they shouldn't even be looking at a phone like the iphone.
