to the constant rumors i have been hearing that nextel is indeed going to be given the boot? i really didnt believe it would happen, but since the power source or hybrid phones came out and now the i570, nextel has been greatly left behind. any facts would be greatly appreciated.

Sprint-Nextel formally commited in a letter to their customers in 2007, that the Nextel network would be fully supported through 2012. That means regular network maintenance and some new phones, and for the past year or so they have actually been installing new towers/antennas, INCREASING the Nextel iDEN coverage area.

In my community (population 200,000 in Los Angeles county), they have installed two new Nextel towers in the past eight months, and to my surprise they just installed a new antenna to patch an existing hole in the coverage along I-5 in a tiny town along Interstate-5 (town is called Gorman). S-N reported that in 2007 they installed 1600 new Nextel towers/antennas (in addtion to over 2000 Sprint CDMA towers/antennas).

thank you for all the cool info, i used to have a nextel but i decided to switch carriers and have been travelling to mexico a lot and that intl direct connect feature would really come in handy, i was hesitant to get a nextel again because of all the rumors that have been going on but if i can get at least four more years of service thats more than enough, thanks again
