as a sales rep and know many sales reps, this actually hurts sales. most customer hear how much and just DON'T. plus, they would actually MAKE more money if they charged 5 cents for the messages and people think it's cheap and do it more often...

wall street wants to see that monthly revenue up. which means vzw is going to do everything they can to force people to pay for a package.

also, as people have found out since the 96 telecom act, "bundling" does not equal cheaper

Being that VZW isn't publicly traded, Wall Street really doesn't care. As for this causing less sales? Hmmmm no sorry. Charging less and people texting more also does not work. The increase isn't to "just be like everyone else" there are financial reasons (can someone say 4G?). There'll be a wonderful influx of people who wish to opt-out of their contracts because of this and think they won't have to pay. Sadly, this won't work (even with the script someone says they used on engadget) if you come across a proper rep.

People like you make me REALLY mad. Go to school get a degree and then TALK. VZW is owned by VZ and VOD and Wall Street DOES care since wireless business in US is highly profitable.

Why do companies implement high fees for customers that don't have plan? It's very simple, when a customer is signing up for wireless service they will be presented with a fact that if they would ever use any additional service without a plan it would cost them a lot of money and if they use it more than 25 times then they will spend more money than if they would simply sign up for a plan. Also in my case I always sign up for these plans and I do use it one month a lot and next three months I don't use it at all and guess what? If you don't have a plan they d...

I don't think that Verizon is going to sell its controlling stake in Verizon Wireless. VZW is a great profit generator, and unless Vodafone were willing to pay an enormous premium, I don't think it will happen.

"Its just like getting a mortgage, smart person gets a fixed APR and a dumb one a variable APR. It's not a really great analogy but I hope you get my point." I resent you saying a person is dumb for getting a variable rate mortgage. Unless you know each and every person's situation keep your mouth shut.

Exactly. There are good reasons to get a Variable APR as it's fixed at a lower rate for 3 to 5 years. This is a good type of mortgage for those that buy a house, own it for a few years long enough to fix it up some, and then sell it off at a profit. Then they reinvest a lot of that money in another house. I've known people who make a living that way. They don't actually have a job except for working on the house they bought.

It was an analogy buddy. I guess you got offended. It is what it. Take a look at current foreclosures. See how hard FED is working to lower it, and to avoid recession. There are good reasons to get variable rate for certain people but MAJORITY people shouldn't. If you want to feel good about your choice you can tell me to shut my mouth but the fact is a fact.

what are you basing this on? VZ would sell of the telco portion of the company before the wireless.

Actually, the deal that in the works with Vodafon is for VZW to buy out the remaining stock from them. The bonus minutes are going to customers with tenure. Its just like offering customers additional discounts off phones for agreeing to a new contract. It is standard marketing practices to keep up the competitive edge.

It is true but I don't recall Verizon trying so hard to get their numbers up. It's just a guess.

I am a customer care rep and can tell you that no one will get out of their contract because of a casual text message increase. This is due to the fact that while it may seem like a "materialy adverse" price increase it isn't as the service is something you elect to use and if you dont want the casual rate get a plan. On the other hand you can still get out of your contract till the end of the month due to the new surcharges we added on the first wich of course arent elective. This is Sprint btw.

I have unlimited text with t-mobile, and if I didn't I could never pay my cell phone bill, because i use an average of 12 to 15 THOUSAND messages a month. So bundling works very well for me.

I have a problem paying for text messages I do not want to receive. As a very casual text messenger, I find it ridiculous to pay $6+ for 10 or so text messages a month. If they would offer a 1.99 or 2.99 package a month, i wouldn't complain.

The per usage charge is quickly becoming comparable to overage charges.

Math course, anyone?

10 texts at 20 cents per message = $2.00 NOT $6.00 as said above.

Do yourself a favour and do not shout your mouth off just to make some noise.

I think he means that you have pay the per message charge for phone spam. At least the way I took it is that he could use 10 messages per month and but with the spam it would cost $6 or more.

Spam has been pretty out-of-hand lately. It'd actually be nice if VZW simply blocked e-mail and Web-based messages by default, as it's pretty difficult for the average person to sign into the Web site to block them.

But yeah, VZW will credit the charges for the spam messages as long as you put in an honest effort to actually have them stopped. There's an 800 number that assists in stopping spam messages, as well as VZW's Web site. Of course, you can also block text messaging entirely, but that's a bit drastic.

Perhaps you should work on your reading comprehension skills before your critique my math skills.

If i choose to send 10 messages a month, then it is a fair assumption i will receive on average 10 messages back. That is $4. This doesn't include the messages that I do not want to receive ... such a text message alerts from my voice mail and mass forwarding of text message jokes/happy holiday messages or just general messages that I don't want to receive.

Also, I shouldn't have to call in for petty credits. Im sorry you feel that 30 messages for 6.00 is a bargain for you... but I prefer to look at that as a rip off into forcing me to use a service that I do not need.

"I find it ridiculous to pay $6+ for 10 or so text messages a month."

You said nothing about those being sent only. 10 texts can mean 10 sent, 10 received, or a combo. So, considering you were vague I had every right to critique your math skills. Loser.
