The normal speed for an EDGE data card runs anywhere from 118kbs (kilobytes per second) to up to 400kbs. Mind you this is on EDGE. A 3G data card runs about 1.8MBS (Megabytes per second) to 3.6MBS

Is that 1.8mbps real world speeds??? Or so called advertised speed? Advertised speeds don't mean anything, only real world speeds mean something.

I refuse to pay $60/mo until real world speeds are on average over 3mbps, and I don't mean bursh of up to neither, I mean average speeds.

The current speeds don't just justify the cost!!!

I agree - sort of.
I have tested it out tethered on my Samsung ZX-20 and will test again with my V3xx when I renew.
I'm more concerned about usage limitations and stability. I currently have 3Mbps DSL (2.6Mbps throughput), and have no issues, but use UMTS/HSDPA as a backup... but the cost is steep, and service needs to be 99% reliable with no caps.

The cost isnt justified to you..

To myself and many others 1 and a half Mbps is well worth the $60 to get mobile web on my laptop anywhere I go.

Its not like I need p2p or filesharing when im out and about...

Still, I would not argue if the speeds were increased.

That is real world speeds using a speed test on the net. I have been working for ATT MObility/Cingular/ATT Wireless when they lanched GPRS EDGE and 3G and this is the real speeds which are on 3G in the US. The advertised speed is 3.6MBS the allout actuallity is 1.8MBS. This of course is the downloadable speed; upload is much slower average is going to be 512KBS to 768KBS. 😎

Yeah well, for $60/mo 1.8mbps isn't enough!!!

Cost that the customer pays isn't justified.

Ok, So your a traveling salesman... You constantly have to be able to be reached with new sales calls via email. Also you are sent offer letters and have to edit them on a regular basis. You also enjoy watching porn while in the hotel rooms while traveling.

Isnt that worth 60 bucks a month? expecaily when you can write if off at the end of the year?

🤣 🤣 🤣

Not everyone is an average joe

Its not about speed, its about mobility... if you can get that in your head, then you will understand the cost.

you mean 1.8Mbps-3.6Mbps (megabits/sec)

If it was 1.8 megabytes/sec and 3.6 megabytes/sec, the network throughput would be 14.4Mbps and 28.8Mbps respectively. You cant quite do that on EVDO/UMTS.
