If he drove one company to the ground, what makes you think he will not do that to another.

Man I am glad I got out when I did.

The Sprint Nextel Board of Directors has named wireless industry veteran Daniel R. Hesse, 54, as president and chief executive officer of the company, effective immediately. He previously was chairman, president and CEO of Embarq Corporation.

"Dan Hesse is the right person to lead our company,” said board member Irvine O. Hockaday, Jr., who chaired the board’s CEO search committee. “He is a proven leader with deep wireless experience as a chief executive and an established track record of generating strong operating performance. He has the board’s full support to take decisive actions necessary to improve our performance.”

“Sprint Nextel is a company with a strong set of assets, but clearly we must im...

From the Article:
Under his leadership, AT&T Wireless became the nation’s largest carrier at the time and grew revenues three times faster than the rate of the industry.

I think it was Engadget where I read he was CEO from like 1997 - 2000, at AT&T Wireless's prime.

John Zeglis was the CEO of AT&T Wireless when it was driven into the ground and eventually had to sell itself off to Cingular.

When Hesse headed the same company, AT&T Wireless held the largest chunk of market share in North America. This was of course, back in the day when they were organically number one ahead of the likes of Bell Atlantic, Sprint and Voicestream.

Mr. Hesse did not drive ATTWS into the ground. He built it into a formidable competitor. It took the next CEO to do that.
WHat you can count on from Mr. Hesse is that he will leverage the strengths of the company and turn around the marketing.

Competing against a Hesse led ATTWS was hell. Most of you did not have to do that. They were innovative and had price plans that were tough to beat. All of that with a crappy IS-136 TDMA network and only 30MHZ to use. Give him Sprint's network and bandwidth to leverage off of and who knows what he will do.

One word of warning:
All of you CS reps that hang up on customers or are basically incompetent and uncaring your career will be very short with Sprint under Dan Hesse so polish up the old r...

heh that i beleive only goes to those who are directly working for sprint but agents who are working as a dealer for sprint under business outsourcing companies got their backs covered so i guess hesse has to work side by side with these companies since they're taking more than 70% of the work load for sprint.

I sure hope he does something with the affiliate markets Sprint purchased such as Alamosa PCS. They still need some MAJOR cell site enhancements not to mention EVDO. It's bad liveing in an area where Alltel and Verizon both have EVDO and Sprint still has "dial up" speed for aircards
