It's not the people, it's their devices!! Palm has some decent models out there, however they just need to rework the design of them. My experience with them comes down to the buttons, for example in the Treo line, which are horrible for most people to dial from, and afterall, it's main function is a phone!
I can totally see Palm making a come back, all they have to do is put out a totally new device that will shake up the market a bit (e.g. like the MotoQ, iPhone, Blackjack, Pearl). When you walk by a cellular store and see some of these new devices, I immediately have the "wow factor," however with Palms, one glance and you know it's the same old Palm.

Im pretty surprised that the rumours are that they're thinking of going to a linux based OS considering that it seems a lot of companies are moving into the windows based OS's due to vast amount of application available. I am excited to see something new outside of the ho-hum standard Treo's!

I've been selling phones and we've actually experienced a sudden drop of customers buying palm phones. Mostly their concern is the palm OS and they don't like it and also the bulk look on palm phones plus the prices are soaring high which really turns them off. Our customers now would rather choose a blackberry phone or a pda phone that has a windows based OS which is less expensive, compact and more user friendly. I really feel sorry about those employees that lost their job due to palm's inability to project a much better phone for the past months or years. Well let's just hope palm would be back on their feet and rehire those people back. 😕

I completely agree - I'd buy a killer Palm OS device if I could find one. The only ones out there are Treos which are too big (thick) and too expensive. The Palm OS could use some tweaking but otherwise it's great in its simplicity. I miss the smooth syncing between my Palm and Palm Desktop. Way simpler than Outlook and ActiveSync.

Wasn't PALM going to get bought by Nokia or Motorola? Too bad they didn't take them up on that offer, because I am sure they would not want them now. We deal with some PALM folks at my work, and they are SO difficult to work with/for, it is not surprising to see this.

Yeah, Palm was going to be sold and the rumors had Nokia, Motorola and Microsoft as the heavy hitters who were possibly going to buy it. Instead however, Palm received an investment from Elevation Partners (a private equity firm of which Bono from U2 is a founding member) thus was allowed to remain independent.
