I have had it with all these new phones coming out with a 1.3 megapixel camera. The new standard is 2.0!!!!! Wake up, T-Mobile!

They have 6 2MP Cam devices. RAZR2, RIZR, KRZR, Wing, Shadow, and Curve. Sprint has the much tauted Centro = 1.3 - The New CDMA Q's = 1.3 - Juke VGA - VX8350 = 1.3 - Chocolate2 = 1.3 - 6555 = 1.3

Okay. I guess 2MP is the standard. 🙄

Sure there are some, but they are hardly the standard. Hell there are still vga cams being released.

Very well put! I think there are too many phones out there still with the standard vga camera still. I'm just glad t-mo keeps pumping out the new phones!

I agree and as far as the original post was concerned, they keep using the 1.3 because it uses a cheaper chip set which allows you to buy their phones at a cheaper price, for the most part that is, the sidekicks are kind of lame that way.

Why blame the carrier for the camera put in aphone made by Samsung?! T-Mobile doesn't tell Samaung what features to put into phone just software specs!

Yes, the carrier works very closely with the maker. T-Mobile can say "throw in a better camera" and they will.

Most can live with the camera but what about the constant release of LAME a** devices. I mean this phone looks and is lame. As far as the other guy saying the TMO is cranking out phones. Yeah they are but not anything worth paying any money for (except the Curve or Shadow). But hey, maybe are just into releasing entry and mid-rangers. Thank goodness for GSM sim cards and unlocked phones.

to be fair, the photo looks nothing like it in real life. it actually come in Coffee Brown.

T-Mobile releases mid range phones a lot mostly because that's what is hot in the market right now. Not everyone has $300 to just throw around. they definately target the middle class, atleast thats what i get from it.

They also target college students hence the emphasis on texting with t-mobile. And for the guy who said it looked lame i was just curious what phone he has?

And how much did you pay for your phone?

Fact is, not everyone needs a pimp daddy phone. And T-Mobile is definatly not the only carrier with alot of mid-ranged phones.

I dumped TMobile, signed up with AT&T via an independent store and the phone only cost me $230. The phone would have cost me only $199 if I created a new line with TMo [as there kickbacks are bigger] but I wanted to keep my number.

Ok, so you only reaffirmed the fact that all carriers have lame mid-tier phones. Now why are people lynching T-Mobile for this again?

Go after the entire American Wireless industry. At least T-Mobile brought widespread GSM to america so you can get the awesome Euro phones here.

I disagree slightly. AT&T has some good phones. At first glance I see the Sony Ericsson w580 [yes I love SE phones], samsung blackjack, sync and blackjack II, iphone, nokia n75, Moto Q, at&t 8525 and tilt.

I didn't want to wait until March for the release of the SE K850 as much because I as tired of TMobile's phones. I paid 1/3 less and got double the minutes and text with TMobile but I couldn't wait for TMobile anymore.

Now TMobile is not alone is screwing customers with the phone lineup the problem is they announce this phone as if it is special because it 3G but the phone is garbage.

So don't have a ton of nice [$300] phones but at least have a few??? Or how about allowing the [yearly/bi-yearly] discount to go towards an unlocked phone from another dealer? What's up with the perpetual feud with Sony Ericsson? How about something beyond a low-end Nokia?

If you don't want a blackberry or a sidekick what phone looks good to you in Tmo's lineup? The RAZR2 is all I see and that phone doesn't excite me in the least. Even if it did that is still only ONE phone from their lineup.

This phone is another piece of junk.

ha, you just named 2 types yourself. they have 2 different blackberries and 2 different sidekicks. they also have the shadow. there is your few.
they difinately need to step it up though, no doubt. I'm getting tired of all these samsung slider phones. i mean come on... t429, blast, katalyst, t819...

But blackberries and sidekicks tend to hit very specific groups of people [and I don't like either of those devices]. I'll give you the Shadow, although it's window's mobile which I hate. I just want a regular PHONE.

Is it so hard to have decent phones?

I was not saying that everyone had 3 big ones to throw around. The facts are that the line-up comes up very short in high end phones. Getting great phones into TMO's lineup would only serve to benefit them. Great phones with great features bring in well paying customers. The fact that they are limiting themselves to Moto, Nokia, & Samsung for their non-pda devices is really hindering their ability to offer the best variety of phones. They need to take notes from VZ & ATT. Sony Ericsson is a great manufacturer and LG has just stepped on every manufacturers throats this Christmas season with the Venus and Voyager. Not to mention in January the Prada for ATT. Like I said, thank goodness for sim cards and unlocked phones 🙂

I agree with you totally. I for one bought all my phones [7 years with Tmobile/Voicestream] unlocked and unbranded. Unfortunately it came to a head this year wanting another Sony Ericsson and realizing that TMo was never going to stop feuding with them so I switched to AT&T, got a great phone [SE K850] at a good price [$230 w/new contract] and got 3G data to boot.

I understand some phones are going to go exclusive to one carrier [iPhone is the perfect example] but that shouldn't stop TMobile from trying to get better phone. Not everyone with TMo has no credit/bad credit and can only afford a free phone...

The majority of people that buy cell phones do not want to drop $200.00 on a phone. Most people I sell to don't want spend more than $50.00 on a phone. They want just a PHONE that will make calls and maybe take some picture. So a 1.3 mp camera is more than enough for them. Plus the difference between a 1.3 and 2 mp camera is so small that most people couldn't even tell the difference. Most of the people on here are into phones or are power users and want high end phones. Even though you think that the cell phone world should cater to you the fact of the matter is your a minority. The majority of every carriers subscriber base wants inexpensive phone. T-mobile caters to that and it works.

I disagree with your conclusions.

I realized a long time ago that most US customers want FREE [or close to free] phones. That doesn't stop a carrier from have a few higher end phones for people like us and that is where my problem is. TMobile does not do that.

Alternatively, as I suggested in another post, what if the carrier gave the ability to use the "discount" towards upgrading a handset to be used at locations that sell other phones? That way people get the phones they want? Currently you can get a discount on a new contract, like I did to get my k850 but not with an upgrade.

Also I would argue about that some 2MP cameras can be good, anyone else here use a k750? One of the best cameras on a phone ever.

It is very true that customers what a free or close to free phone. As far as the line of higher end phones that TM offers, you got Sidekicks, BlackBerrys, Dash, Wing, and the Shadow. I could in total 10 higher end smart devices.

I have the same scenario for you that I posted to TMo Slave. When I go in and sign up for a new contract I can do it at a carrier store or I can go to a mobile shop that does multiple carriers. Carriers offer phones at a reduced price when you get a 2 year contract. When I sign up at one of those [multi carrier] shops they get a kickback from carrier for me to sign up. The shop I went to for my K850 sold it to me for $230 when I signed up for a two year contract, way below the price of the phone alone which was like $550.

Now when my two years are up I can upgrade my phone at a AT&T store and I will pay the reduced price but why can't I got to one of those mobile shops and get a break on the price of a phone just like when I originall...

Well for sprint "now" if you're already eligible for a $150 discount on an upgarde you can now get a full discount on the phone like a new customer even a web special and also a $25 or $50 discount on your next bill as long as it does not turns the price of the phone zero or negative but of course you'll need to ask for these promotions and quote the pricing on the web because they can only do this on a reactive basis. 😈

The carrier stores I have been to only have the phones that the carriers sell.

Do you actually sell phone to the general public? I do and I see the trends and yes there is a small demand for high end phones. I work in a fairly afluent area. Even then most people don't want to spend $200.00 on a phone. They want the $50.00 slider with the 1.3mp camera and text messages. Now granted Tmobile doesn't have alot of high end phones compared to some other carries but we do offer some; The wing, the curve, the shadow, the dash, razr2, sidekick lx/slide and the pearl are all high end phones. Not offering alot of high end phones that don't sell well helps keep the monthly cost down and makes the customer happy.

As for the idea of offering a credit doesn't really work. So you want tmobile to give you money to buy a ph...

Okay so when I sign up for a new contract I can do it at a AT&T [or other carrier] store or I can go to a mobile shop that does multiple carriers. Carrier stores [or their web sites] offer phones [with contract] at a reduced price. When I go to one of those [multi carrier] shops they get a kickback from carrier. For example the shop I went to for my SE K850 got around a $300 kickback AT&T so the $500+ phone cost me $230 when I sign up for a two year contract.

Now when my two years are up I can upgrade my phone at a AT&T store and I will pay the reduced price but why can't I got to one of those mobile shops and get a break on the price of a phone just like when I originally signed up? The best choice is to switch carriers to get the be...

As for your device comments, I said earlier that I think blackberries and sidekicks are not for everyone. Particular people go for them. I feel the same goes windows mobile pda's but you have to agree at least about berries and sidekick. I just want a good regular phone and that leaves only the razr2 from your list.

Again I know US Carriers do not care about people like me. Doesn't mean I won't bitch in hopes that one day they might. And my bitching is not limited to TMobile but I find them to be the worse when it comes to stuff like this.
