AT&T Expedites Cellular One Retail Store Rebranding
No fees...
So much for AT&T being "the most open network in the country." Bah. I miss CellOne already.
They probably want people to get a new phone to sign a new contract.
If your phone is unlocked, and they still required you to get a new phone, you could simply take your new AT&T SIM card out and put it in your old CellularOne branded phone. That wouldn't be a bad phone, especially if you get a new phone with no contract if that is the case.
So until my Sim card dies I am never switch to the "new" ATT.
It'll probably be similar to when Cingular bought AT&T Wireless, they let everyone switch over, but with new service agreements.
Will Celluar One phones allow you to change internet settings (last I checked, T-Mobile didn't)? If you can, just put in the new sim card and change the settings and you're good to go.
I'm guessing they will just send updated settings down to the handset via SMS, as thats the easiest and most common sense way of doing it.

Funny, my unlocked Nokia N95-3 works perfectly with AT&T's data, the setting for the phone were set up automatically by pulling the information off the sim card. So, don't think there would be a problem manually adding AT&T's wap settings.
I just saw this soon after I posted the above.

The only thing that seperates my w580 from an AT&T w580 is the firmware running it, theirs being locked down with proprietary nonsense. While it's true that not all stores have the equipment to reflash a handset, at least one in a major market is required to. Why waste postage and time for a process that is essentially plug-n-play, and takes but a few minutes? Telling me it's a hardware thing would be like the Geek Squad telling someone they have to buy an entirely new computer if they want to switch from XP to Linux... complete B.S. that...

Put in the wap apn and you're good to go.
Old specific apps may not work properly though.
Eg. I had no problems receiving SMS on my old V505, wasn't very successful at sending.
