I'll take Google for that bet.
IF they want into the cell phone business as bad as they seem to, they should be willing to pay whatever price is asked.
If ATT bids a kajillion, see Google bid a kajillion-and-one.

There are rumors out there that Google is only going to bid the minimum, doing so just to make sure they get as many of the 'open' spectrum rules included in the auction as possible.
At that point they don't need to own the spectrum to be able to use it 🙂

but does google have the cash available to drop $5 bill( more likely closer to $8 or $9 billion by the end of it) to put into this experiment and then have the resources afterward to buld it out and get a return on theri investment?

I remember reading somewhere that the minimum is like 1/3 of their net worth. I'll look it up again, but man, its quite a risk.

I'm a little confused with this info. The current plans are to move law enforcement into 700Mhz and open up spectrum in the 800Mhz band for wireless. Is the article have typos or is part of 700MHz also going to wireless?
