Verizon Wireless Will Support Android
Seems like a desperate move to me
"Even funnier... the phone doesn't come in pink 😉"
But as much as I have posted here... I totally don't remember when or to what I said that quote about... whatev.
Btw, calling me a fanby doesn't make what I say any less true 😉
Seems typical of those who can't respect a difference of opinion.
Pretty soon "the Network" will no longer be a selling point. Verizon has used this as their bread and butter for years and AT&T is catching up with a "network you can trust." Granted it you may not have a reliable or trustworthy network in your area, but in the market where both are equal, how to get new customers in a 100% saturated market. Steal them away from other carriers. Now it may be easy to do now with Sprint/Nextel around but let see how the big dogs do it. Please no iPhone replies as this did very little in port out from Verizon. Custom...

So, Verizon wants to take the big step and make it's network open with open handsets from Google too. They are doing what the other carriers haven't yet in order to show they are different
No, what they're doing is frantically playing catch up.
AT&T has always had an open network because they are GSM-based. Verizon is just now getting the message and joining the club.

You are still holding on to the idea that is about phones, pda's, aircard and the occasional UMPC eh? OHA is of course for Google OS on Mobile Phone and other Carriers like T-mob and Sprint are already a part of this. An Open Access Network is more then just the typical wireless device. Nancy Stark said it herself. Think about other stuff. Can you activate a Refrigerator on AT&T?? How about a Flat Panel TV? or your Xbox 360/PS3? you Satellite or cable box including DVR. Amazon's Kindle is a great example. A book a ...

Verizon is just playing catch up. They've finally seen the light and are realizing that they cannot continue to compete with a closed network.

What do you think? Discuss.
Nice move making everyone argue about VZW. Its funny how everyone on here has to oppress opinions other than their own.
VZW never stays still thats all this is, we have to keep moving to keep our lead. Best today, Better tomorrow.
How can you be desperate when your company is actually operating in the black and the rest are still in the red
It you look at the last few quarters VZW has had more activations and less customer turnover than any carrier. If anything this looks the last great hurdle VZW will have to make in order to catch up to AT&T.
Personally I feel the more important battle lies in what carrier will be first to launch a reliable nation wide 4G network. Because the one with the speeds and advanced network the "cool" phones will come to you
As far as 4G goes... I think that's further off than the hype suggests. I'll be surprised if there's any sort of useful 4G network in place before 2010. The 4G standard isn't even defined yet, after all.
Besides, the carriers have all invested billions of dollars in their 3G networks and they need to recover as much of that investment as possible before they build yet another brand new ...

It's not "desperation" in the sense that Verizon is collapsing - far from it. I think they've just finally seen the writing on the wall and are taking corrective action.
Thank you. I guess using the word desperation was a bit misleading and profound. Sorry. But you, Roadkill, got it. 😉
VZW catching up? Are you kidding? They are more profitable than AT&T Wireless. When it comes down to it (and assuming if it's possible since VZW is still private), where would you rather invest your money in ... VZW or AT&T Wireless?
As one person said, they are doing this to gain a competitive advantage for the future since the expontential growth in quality and coverage is starting to level out for VZW. With that being said, it will only be a matter of time for ATTWS to catch up to match VZW's network quality and coverage.
With an announcem...
