Touch Capacitace is great for multi-touch but that is about it. I have a iPod Touch and an Instinct and the touch is more responsive but my wife and some other female freinds have a hell of a time using the keyboard with long finger nails. Not to metion gloves + Touch Capacitace = FAIL

your wife = fail

touch capacitive screens allow 95% of the light to shine through giving the customer a brighter screen (sunlight legibility) and better colors!

if your wife doesn't like the ipod touch then get her a useless Zune!

Great...a brighter screen so the battery can die even faster!! WOHOO! I never have the brightness past half way and it is normally closer to 1/4 and I can see it just fine with auto-brightness off. Otherwise I don't even get a full day out of it and since I did tethered jailbreak I have to have my laptop on me just to power it on if it does die on me. Also never said she didn't like it...just said she as well as other people with nails have a hard time typing on it with the portrait keyboard.

did you read what i said... the reason its brighter IS BECAUSE its touch capacitive it uses the same back lighting that touch resistive would use but more light shines through since there is no second semi-transparent layer to shine through.

touch capacitive is a better technology in EVERY way EXCEPT that you can only use skin or a electrically charged stylus as an input.

Your last comment is exacly what I said im my first post...gloves and long fingers nails make touch cap not as user friendly as resistive touch screens. It is however more responsive and allows multi-touch. I was just giving reasons why every touch screen phone does not have a touch cap screen and you just said the same thing. Also since no other manufacture other than palm has the balls to make a phone that allows multi-touch out of the box (fearing an Apple lawsuit) why even bother? The 90% light transmit vs. 75% which is what you get with responsive is nice but a SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave)touch screen transmit 100% light and deliver the highest quality image.

Big reason you don't see TC on these phones, well IMHO is do to Asian markets like China, Japan, Korea etc.. Is its hard to use it with their types of scripts, they depend on a stylus. It must have taken a significant amount of arm twisting to get HTC to do TC on the G1. And yes, I do prefer it, it is far superior for most of us.

People with nails or gloves can't use TC screens. Plus, TC uses literally a touch to activate, and that can cause false positives as well. TR requires a light push on the device to operate. Once you understand that to drag you have to be pushing down on the whole drag you will find your "misses" to be less.

... except that TR is a horrible technology that has inhibits the screen brightness by up to 50% because the light has to shine through a pane of glass followed by 2 electrically charged membranes (1+, 1-). The technology of TR only allows 1 Point-of-Contact at a time while most Touch Capacitive tech allows up to 5 PoC.

Resistive
Resistive screens are pressure sensitive and can be touched with a finger, stylus or just about any pointed object. They use two active layers: a flexible plastic layer on top of a rigid plastic or glass layer, with insulated spacers in between. The layers are coated with indium tin oxide, and different voltages are applied across the coatings, typically alternating between the layers. When touched, the front layer picks up the voltage from the back, and the back layer picks up the voltage from the front, enabling the controller to determine the X-Y location.

Although the least expensive, the resistive method blocks up to 45% of the light from the CRT or LCD screen due to the multiple layers and coatings.
