Is this to remind us of how backwards this country is when it comes to cell phones? 😢

It's a world first, so it's a milestone of sorts for phone technology, and a sign of what's to come here... eventually.

It isn't a true world phone, when it doesn't even have the 850 band for North America. Just like some North American phones will omit the 900 band when a tri-band phone gets made.

Um, I don't think the previous poster is talking about it being a "world phone" he just means that a five megapixel camera phone is a world-first. In other words "the worlds first five megapixel camera phone".

It does. The N95 does not have an optical zoom, though.

5 megapixel + 3x optical zoom = world first

The reason is that besides Motorola most companies manufacture their phones in Asia... Also, if you are with a CDMA network (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, etc) it takes longer to get nice phones because they must be made to work with CDMA networks. VERY few nice phones are actually made for CDMA networks first! Hope this helps to explain why we get boned out of nice phones most of the time. Oh, and also because everywhere else in the world people buy phones at retail with NO CONTRACTS and just pay for minutes... that changes things a bit as well.
