Are they doing this roll-out with a concern for "protection" or Profit? My guess is the latter.

Any time that some one throws a phone out on the market, somebody will begin to mod it, script it, and play around with it. With that said, both protection and profit are a part of an SDK. The profit of an SDK is that it creates an aftermarket for programs which can increase the usability of a product. By extending this usability, this can create new markets not just for the developers but for Apple as well.

This aftermarket creates an economic basis for getting the base product, and can create a brand loyalty. Take muscle cars for example, they have an excellent aftermarket for parts. And you don't run out to get a set of Edelbrock headers for a 350 engine without having either the crate engine or the vehicle to put it in.

An SDK li...

Its going to be both. They want to protect the iPhone so that it can only be used on ATT (which is illegal and they are currently being sued over) and to profit by allowing more software to be developed which will increase usability and draw in more customers.

and they are going to win the lawsuit, because you cant get a verizon RIZR Z6tv unlocked to work on sprints network flawlessly, so apples excuse is that the phone isnt built for any other network other than AT&T (here in the states) and they cant stand behind a product that doesnt work at 100%

not to mention the only people complaining are people who bought the iphone, i didnt see any other CARRIERS complaining the iphone doesnt work on their network!

No, you can't make it work on sprint, but you CAN make it work on some MVNO's and a service called Cricket. That actually may not win the lawsuit due to FCC regulations that state that you can unlock a phone for the sole purpose or connecting it to your new service provider. Basically it means that if you stay with the same signal (CDMA/GSM) provider, you should be able to take the phone with you. Now, as far as Sprint/VZW are concerned, you can do that and they will not stop you. Only downfall is that you can only get voice to work between those providers phones since data runs on different software.

And since the iPhone is quad band and edge, it will in fact work on TMobile without ANY problems if Apple would unlock it. So Apple should lose the lawsuit...not win it pennyless10.

You must not travel internationally but I do every year. TM is almost the only service to offer the best rates and calling area over seas.

Yeah totally dublea.

Pennyless10r your original comment I replied to was that, "the phone isnt built for any other network other than AT&T" which is BS.

Also if you live in a major city like I do [NYC] where TMo has good coverage you can get more than double the minutes, 1000 versus 450 [for the same $39.99], double the sms 400 versus 200 for [for the same $5.99] and cheaper edge data. Even though I can afford AT&T why would I pay more for the same services?

Yes TMo tend to be more risky customers but some of us have them because they are the best deal.

the phones prggramming has VISUAL VOICE MAIL and at&t is the only network (stateside) that allows that feature!

and you can obviously agree that an unlocked iphone on any other feature CAN NOT take advantage of this simple feature THUS proving my statement that its not built for any other network other than AT&T's!!

Good point. Sorry I missed it. Totally didn't think about visual voicemail as it doesn't work for me 🙂 and because it's not a feature that excited me.

In addition to ur cheaper plans from TM why is it then that when I searched their plans that u get no night and weekend min plus no mobile to mobile, leaving u only those 1000 min. So if their plans are so much cheaper than at&t why is then that at&t's plans level out with TM becaus eof the unlimited N&W and unlimited M2M.

First to your previous post, once the crack came out you could use all the features except for vis voicemail. You can't say you didn't think they would crack it?tmo

Also you are correct, their current plan does not off mobile to mobile minutes. I have an older plan that has 1000 minutes and free N&W minutes but no mobile to mobile. For me peak minutes are more important than mobile to mobile as I know people on TMo, at&t and verizon.

Comparing plans I feel TMo offers better deals, at least for me and what I need.

TMo
$39.99 - 600 peak, unlimited night
$39.99 - 1000 peak, no nights
$49.99 - 1000 peak, unlimited night
$59.99 - 1500 peak, unlimited night

AT&T
$39.99 - 450 peak, 5000 night, unlimited m2m
$59.99 - 1000 peak, ...

so let me get this straight we agree that the iphone was built by apple for AT&T and we agree that you cant afford AT&T but we disagree that apple should only support the iphones that are used only on AT&T's network? you should be the next retard on "mind of mencia"
