CDMA in the U.K.?
With BT possibly buying Sprint, what are the chances that BT launches a CDMA network in the U.K.? While both are interested in WiMAX in the long term, perhaps a preliminary CDMA network can allow for some roaming options with Sprint in the U.S. assuming the merger goes through. Perhaps the Sprint name can be used in the U.K. as well.

It could happen especially with the use of Qchat. They are more interested in Wimax with Sprint though.

I thought CDMA was not legal because of the European Union.

I don't think it's illegal to use CDMA in the E.U., I think it's required that the 900 mHz and 1800 mHz blocks must use the GSM family. I know there is some information somewhere about a 450 mHz (or similar frequency) CDMA2000 in Europe, using the spectrum that was formerly used by carriers that ran NMT (Nordic Mobile). I don't know if it was a commercial rollout or just a test of the technology at that frequency.

used to be banned but not anymore

There is a lot of interest in 450MHZ because it has an incredible range. CDMA is the technology preferred for 450MHZ.
Russia is looking at using CDMA450 in Siberia for that reason. It is much more economical than using 900 or especially 1800 MHZ.

Right, except in member states that had CDMA prior to joining. Like in Poland and a few other member states.
