Is India a no subsidy market?
Or do they do contracts like here?
...
Hey, I just want to make sure I understand you correctly. By do they contract like here, do you mean that most wireless companies, if not all, don't actually own they're own cell towers, ah heck, I can't think of the name of the company right now, I think it's got the word "castle" in the name of the comany.
Heck, maybe by the time 4G wireless networks are deployed by the turn of the decade, there will be lower international rates, but there isn't anybody I communicate with internationally anyway, heck, I've never even made an internation call.

umm... but they still have contracts in europe... the iphone is on a 18month contract for all the conpanies that it comes out with over there, not to mention that they do offer contracts like we do here with discounted equipment LOCKED to the provider but prepaid (pay as you go) or alla carte are the most popular choices you hear about and with those you get unlocked sim/phones

From what i saw while i was in India there are contracts but the phones are so cheap there that everyone uses prepaid. For example i can buy a Nokia phone in India Band only for 40 dollars. You can buy world phones there but they costs up to 500 us dollars. There are 3 carries i saw while i was there Airtel(GSM) Very expensive but the best coverage in India. TaTa(CDMA) Very cheap and they work with companies we had TaTa build a cell tower just for our office! 3rd one I can not remember the name but they were like Metro PCS Unlimited local calling (GSM). Also another interesting point alot of the cities in India don't use landlines they have a CDMA Box from TaTa they use to connect to a home phone and make calls directly from the cell tower. ...
