This is cool and all but...

a company in USA upgrading to WIMAX is pretty sweet, i mean Im all ATT but if you need to have a tablet that runs the internet e-mail and everything else... i would rather have a SONY VAIO® UX Series Micro PC
it runs VISTA (though it uses AT&T's egde network) and you can get more work done with with a fully handheld PC than you can with an internet tablet

You could see that on Wimax. The idea of that network is to allow the kinds of devices of which you speak of to people who use data extensively.

YEa, if you data alot, do not go with ATT cuz WiMAX will be faster than even their g4 network.

There is a reason why these companies do not like when many people use their data network. It costs a lot of money especially on a MHz/pop basis. The better technology the lower the cost per bit. In addition, the amount of spectrum helps.

You are talking out of your butt. Which means, you dont know what you are talking about.

I see LTE as a much better 4G solution than WiMax and even AT&T is going to be deploying WiMax in some markets.

The problem that I see with LTE is that its on a GSM spectrum. To be honest I've never liked GSM since companies like Sprint and Verizon have gone CDMA. CDMA uses less towers, broadcasts farther, and can carry more connections per tower. WiMAX is on a different spectrum but matches and/or is better at the same things.

Another thing I don't like about LTE is their actual to hypothetical speeds. WiMAX's tests have shown that the actual speed almost matches the hypothetical whereas LTE is far off at the current moment. This is why you see countries like Japan considering switching networks to CDMA technology but in the same step keep the GSM and have quad band phones.

What are you talking about, LTE doesn't use the TDMA technology that GSM does. For that matter, nor does HSPA.

I'm saying that from what I've been reading about it, its has the same flaw as GSM whereas it takes more towers to cover the area as CDMA, that was all I was stating. If you look, I at lease stated that WiMAX is on a different spectrum or frequency range. Sorry I didn't say the same about LTE.

This is what I read:

CDMA Towers cover 3km
HSPA Towers cover 2.5km
WiMax Towers cover 1.0km (some say it won't even do that)

They didn't state how bad GSM was but it can't be as bad as WiMax

for every 1 CDMA tower, it takes 4-5 GSM, and from what I've read, when the 802.11e IEEE is released (a month or two before the full implementation of WiMAX) the Coverage will be the exact same distance as CDMA towers. Sprint isn't going to put up new towers for a data network connection. They are too cheep for that. BTW, the distance is equal to the decibel strength (remember, WiMAX is just WiFi to the max). Therefor wherever/whoever gave you that info must be looking at when they tested it on a low 17dp and not whats being used, the 112dp broadcasters.

First of all, it's called 4G not G4. You obviously don't know that 4G stands for 4th Generation.

Second of all, LTE has been demonstrated at 144 Mbps while WiMax hasn't even come close yet.

Obviously you're Mr. Perfect and never make a mistake. Let me apologize for my rude misspelled statement and let you know that I just typed it wrong. I do know what 4g stands for and have been in the cellular world for quite some time. Yes, LTE was demonstrated at doing 144 Mbps whereas WiMAX has show 72 Mbps. When EV-D0 came out, its first tests showed 3 Mbps but when used, you only got around 900 Kbps. WiMAX when created was tested at 75 Mbps and network test has it at 72 Mbps. Lets see where LTE goes when it comes out and since LTE won't be out till late 2009 or early 2010, WiMAX should only be compared to HSPA. Just like WiFi and EV-D0 and every other date connection made by man, WiMAX will come out with faster speed when its time...

Sorry, I just see too many people doing that so it seems like people who say g4 really think that's what it is. Glad to see this isn't the case. 🙂

And I agree, once HSPA+ comes out, it'll definitely give Wimax a run for its money until LTE is ready.
