I mean, when we went from EDGE to 3G I knew because I saw the 3G icon on the phone screen, but now, how will I know?

Your browsing experience should be even faster since the upload latency will decrease.

500-800kbps uplink doesn't really seem all thatt exciting.

Do you know if downlink is going to get any better??? Likely this meansthe Sierra Wireless 880 aircard will be out soon to replace the older 875.

They're slowly ramping up the HSDPA speed.

Initially it was 1.8 Mbps.

I hear now it's 3.6 Mbps but I haven't heard if it was official or not.

The networks overseas are begginng to get 7.2 MBps out.

14.4 Mbps is the max for HSPA. After that, the next step is HSPA+ which will use MIMO to increase speeds further.

Do you have an aircard with Cingular yourself? If so, what speeds have you experiences.

Right now I'm in now rush to have mobile internet, if I'm going to be paying $60/mo then I want my monies worth!!!

Not anymore but before I would typically get better than 1 Mbps according to the Speakeasy.net speed test.

This is with 4-5 bars of signal.

Was that with the 875 aircard? That's not too bad of a speed.

I'm going to keep waiting, the 880 should be coming out soon.

Oh wow, an older card achieved that speed!!! Wow, I guess your right. But I'm still going to wait for the Sierra Wireless 880 to come out. I really want my money worth, $60/mo is quite a bit.

When the upload speeds are faster, but you will have to get a device that supports both HSUPA and HSDPA.

Or the Option HSUPA cards, which have been on Option's website for some time now...

However, Sierra Wireless and Novatel Wireless are better than Option performance wise and easier to use. SW and NW are very domestically as well as abroad but Option is very good overseas and not good here. Same thing with Palm and Rimm.

Or, you know, you could actually call AT&T instead of buying an expensive HSUPA-capable phone without knowing whether your area has been upgraded or not.
