T-Mobile should go for LTE along with UMTS

LTE (4GSM) should be practical when the spectrum is all cleared, T-Mobile should take the chance to spare off AWS band for LTE, that can keep competitive

They might. Don’t ever count that out. They want to use HSPA though first than they can decide later. It would be easier and better for them to do LTE.

They are so late in the game that they might aswell skip 3g and go str8 to 4g. I know! Wishful thinking!

Long Term Evolution, it's the fourth generation of GSM technologies. Wikipedia and HowStuffWorks have great articles on it. Very cool especially now that VZW is choosing it. This means that in the U.S.A, Verizon could very well be a roaming partner of T-Mobile and AT&T in the future rather than Sprint. This would be a great thing for us consumers in theory. They could charge an arma nd a leg for it though. 😎

Verizon could but no one knows if T-mobile and AT&T will do LTE.

I don’t think Verizon needs to roam with them anyway, but they might have to because of that FCC mandate.

99% sure T-Mobile USA will go for LTE
T-Mobile spent good amount of money to get 20+MHz AWS license nationwide
UMTS just needs 10MHz of spectrum, that T-Mobile can use the rest for LTE

No one is sure they will go to LTE. They still need to have those licenses cleared. Some are but not all. They already purchased equipment for HSPA so LTE, could happen, but not yet. What they could do is launch in some areas HSPA and in others LTE and then convert it later on. They do not need to rush at this point because their MHz/pop cost is very low. T-mobile needs to do it right instead of just rushing right away. They see obviously opportunity in HSPA so they are deploying that. If they saw that LTE was better, they would have done it first before even deploying HSPA or paying for the equipment. They could always use their existing infrastructure, which is great.

Can’t really do that plus they already have purchased and close at turning on the HSPA networks.

WiMax would fit the timeline better but it seems T-Mobile already spent money on W-CDMA equipment
