Depending on the area, I wonder if the PCS spectrum is around 30mhz, if they would even try to release some 3G in the PCS band for that area, or if they'll do it strictly in the AWS band, with all of the licenses they acquired.
30mhz isn’t a lot of spectrum especially if you want to use a lot for your data and voice packages so the T-mobile transaction allows them to add their holdings (which is a good amount) to Suncom’s to provide more capacity and compelling data and voice packages. They could always add that spectrum on the network but not deploy it for 3G services but to maintain the capacity and perhaps increase it.
