Yes, it really is that shoddy.

I haven't checked to update the firmware yet, and I've just now gotten time to mess with it.

The UI is slow and the touch scrolling is underwhelming. It's way more responsive than any other VZW touch screen phone (Dare, Voyager, Glyde), but even in scrolling through the main menu it is tedious and not very fun.

The UI also looks good in pictures but it's herky-jerky in person. The In-store display was just as bad, but I'd figured it had too many processes running or had a memory leak. NOPE.

My biggest gripe with the UI is though it is a solid UI with the thumb wheel or trackball, it is garbage with a touch screen. Anyone who has gotten a good case of Blackberry thumb is going to hate having to mov...

that sucks.

if it makes you feel better RIM has stated a free over the air software upgrade for the storm is due out in a week or two. it is supposed to address nearly all issues with speed/delay/performance of the OS.


if thats fixed the only problem it sounds like will be getting use to the click screen, which im sure you would get use to like with anything.

The software is my primary issue. If they can get that fixed, I think I could get used to the touchscreen. Although I was making some typos on the demo, that was only with about a 1/2 hour of usage in the store. But when the software kept freezing up on me when I tried to run the preinstalled video (which looked fantastic, I might add), not allowing me to turn down the speaker volume, not to mention I couldn't figure out how to pause or stop it because the on-screen buttons didn't do anything (all of this was my inexperience, I'm assuming), I can't live with that.

I did see a video on another website where the reviewer opened one fresh out of the box and showed everything he did right on the screen. His demo phone switched from portra...
