This is just part of the reason the US is worse then a third world country when it comes to mobile phones, heck, Haiti and Bangladesh are ahead of us.

I so, so much agree!!! And that is precisly why I have an unlocked phone, because I REFUSE to keep waiting, and waiting, and waiting, for AT&T to comed out with a handset that has a 3.2mp camera,. . .so, I bought an unlocked Sharp V903, which has a 3.2mp camera, mp3 player, stereo speakers, . . . and here we are I've had this phone for almost 16 months and STILL AT&T doesn't have a 3.2mp cameraphone, I absolutley refuse to wait.

Not only am I waiting for AT&T to have a quality cameraphone, but also for MobileTv, which is supposedly coming in the 4th Qtr.

I am so, so sick of waiting, and waiting!!!!!!

Worse than a third world country? Which wireless technology did Bangladesh invent? Without U.S. innovation there would be no 3G. Keep in mind that even UMTS has its roots with Qualcomm.

GSM, as good as it is is so limited in its capacity that it could not be relied upon to be the technology of choice for the future.

Even GSM had a lot of Motorola influence in its development.

If things here are so bad then go back to Europe. Enjoy your double digit unemployment, exorbitant taxes and extremely high prices.

While I agree with everything you just said, you do have to admit Europe does have some pretty attractive women. 😈

Mobile service in many countries is better faster and newer since it was put in after the networks in the US; it is newer and built with better technology from the ground up.
Some countries have people that go with out to have the best phones. What would our phones be like if we went without to get the best and better.

Wireless phones have not been the high priority in the States that they have been in other parts of the world. American consumers are slow to adopt the technologies. Carriers won't buy phones that will have a slow sell through rate. While for the most part our innovation and networks outpace the world our consumers choose to adopt things slowly. Mainly because Americans are more pragmatic than most and industry marketing has not really excited people about the benefits of enhanced data features.

I disagree. I don't think the American consumer adopts things slowly... it's that the stupid carriers won't let you upgrade whenever you want... I've met tons of people who would want a new phone ...

Ok, you CAN upgrade whenever you want, just pay the full retail price and ANY provider can do it for you. If you want a discount, wait for said company to recoup the money they took off the phone when you started service. It usually takes 22-24 months for a company to make the money back. Its basic business.

Most business's start in the hole and end a fiscal year just above the black. Take wal-mart for instance, they are in the red the whole year till Nov comes around and holiday shopping starts and they are in the black. (That is also why the Fri. after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday.) They make most of thier profit the last year of the month, or at least thats how most business's run.

So, if a mobile phone provider takes...
