Talk About Beaten to Death...

Everyone is quick to point out how the Razr design has been beaten to the ground but what about the iDen Moto Nextels? Are they not the most boring/ugly phones on the planet or what? It's nice to know that while other phone are becoming more pleasing to the eye, Nextel is sticking to what made them suck in the first place, their crappy handsets.

Ugly? Yes.

Crappy? Try again.

They might not be what you are looking for in a handset, but the fact of it is that Nextel formed a niche market with large corporations, contractors, and things of the like...with..."crappy" handsets.

Actually, I think the word you are looking for in your post is "functional".

...because not many handsets coming out now ARE functional.

Sexy? Yes.

Functionally sound? No.

I guess they have found a niche market, the idiot construction worker which the best job he could lock down after securing that GED was pouring cement. Or, for a Hood Rat who still thinks it "hot/fly/tight" to have someone "Chirp" you at 3:30 in the morning. Right... Notice that the real people who run $h*t have BB's, GSM BB's. This is in ladies...

You sir (or ma'am) are a douchebag

If you do not like what you see, feel free to paste this in your browser https://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/forum.php ?c=4

There are plenty of people that want JUST A PHONE TO MAKE AND RECEIVE CALLS

Heaven forbid that you drop your precious little pearl and have it break to a bunch of pieces. Good luck on making an insurance claim on that my friend.

It's your highness to you BTW, and It just so happens that the BB Pearl (just like any other BB) is more durable than you may think. It may not be able to survive a drop from space, but it'll put up with some wear and tear. No, it's not insurable, but I can afford a replacement (considering I don't pour cement and all) if need be. But I love the direct insult

I could do better after my morning coffee 🤣

Plus I know a little bit about the blackberries as I use the 8703 personally. However, ALL of sprint's phones are insurable.

BTW, not all people that require a rugged phone are "cement pourers" A LOT of police officers, firemen and various branches of our armed forces like the nextel phones just because they are rugged.

Sadly people never appreciate what a rugged phone can mean for them until it's too late. You know what I'm talking about. Leaving your phone on the roof of a car, bending over and dropping your phone out of your shirt pocket, finding your dog chewing on it when you accidently leave it at home, ramming the phone on a wall while you back up and it's on a belt clip, or just getting pissed off at the person on the other end... having a rugged phone can be quite useful.

Dearest “DJanifer9512”,

Hmmm…I have a college degree (engineering), work in one of the highest-tech industries there is, and I use and love the Nextel system, ugly handsets & all. I did pour concrete during the occasional odd job during the summer when I was high-school age, earning money for college. But cell-phones didn’t exist back then, so I couldn’t possibly have made the connection between rugged handsets and pouring concrete. I wonder how you figured out there is a deep psychological thread connecting construction types and Nextel, despite a complete lack of evidence.

I also notice that the entire Disney World organization uses Nextel phones. Now, I personally would never have labeled Disney as being a bunch of concrete-pouring...

Do you know who one of the biggest customers of Nextel phones are? Wells Fargo. Do you know who else uses Nextel? The governor of Illinois. What other agency uses Nextel? THE FREAKING CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY THAT'S WHO! Another organization that uses Nextel. EA Software. Somre more include Fox, Coca Cola and Coca Cola executives and IBM. Nextel use spans economical and social classes from blue to white collar alike because it's a fast efficient way to talk, has the best gps available now, and lets them talk to their friends easier. They aren't the absolute best company, there is no such company. Company's always are gonna improve or fade away. But you can't say Nextel is just for hill billies.

I think his main complaint was nextel's lack of "fashion" phones.

The way I pitch, "if you want a phone you can beat the sh*t out of, go with nextel. if you want a fashion phone, go with sprint" Well, not always but you get those customers that you can talk to like that.

And as some have said, Nextel HAS HAD fashion phones.. The i880 is purple and small. The i830 and i836 were both fairly stylish and small.

They didn't sell!

So, what now?

It's true... sad but true... but I've met plenty of other people and have plenty of family members that won't give up their Nextel phones even if they do want a stylish slim phone or different colors. Because then they wouldn't be able to stay in touch with their family. Being a Nextel customer is about family and being connected in every way possible as well as running an efficient business. It's hard to understand unless you have family with Nextel.

I saw a guy at Wal-Mart drop one of those thin flip phones on the floor and it busted in half! 😲

Yeah, I think I'll stick with my "brick", and know that it will last until I get tired of it or lose it.

Personally, I think Nextel phones are the best "i" phones on the market. 😉

Nextel phones sell pretty well because they can double as projectile weapons. Maybe that's just me... (Nextel phone + president = wicked assassination!) Sorry that's just how I feel about the situation... didn't mean to get all political.

P.S. President G dubbya could use an i580 upside his head... White house security would be like... I'm not taking a nextel phone to the chest for that guy...

I personally try to stay away from politics in my forums. I don't think we've had a president worth bragging about since good ol' honest Abe, and according to some historians, he wasn't so honest himself.

I also like rugged phones, because where I work, most of these thin, feature packed phones would wind up in a thousand pieces within a week's time.

They DO make good theft deterrents! 😁

Totally... it's refreshing to see another Nextel monolithic phone. I get tired of hearing about all the phones that flip because most phones flip. Flipping aint as cool as it used to be. Back in the day you could flip your phone and pretend you're captain kirk... now it's kind of played out. Getting back to basics is a good idea.

The only thing good about flips are that they reduce size when flipped...making it easier to fit in your pocket.

They also protect your keypad from damage or from accidental button pushes like turning the phone on or changing a ring setting by accident and can protect the screen better but the point is I think overall people are way past that.

Candybars hold up nearly as good. I've got an old Nokia...I'd just lock the keys.

Really so all these mechanical engineers who use Nextel are push-overs? You have to remember these are MILITARY GRADE PHONES. Name one phone that have passed military standards that looks like the razor. In fact name one for any carrier that doesn't look like a nextel phone. Oh lost for words? Shut up you moron. The only other phone that is military grade thats not on Nextel is on Sprint and its the Sanyo 7050. Do some research and don't be so close minded.

I will agree and say that the Nextel phones are beaten to death... It's great that they are ruggedized, but they could use a little face lift. Some more color options or sleeker design would be nice.

I mean what about the girls who "chirp" with their Nextel. Wouldn't a pink one be nice with the military standards?

Nextel DID have a limited pink i730 "phat" phone with extended battery at one time, and the little bronze i830's were big with the ladies.

I do agree with the color thing. Maybe if some of them came in pink, they might have more female customers.

Please NO!!!!!

unless they slim down the packaging, my store is too small to securely stock every phone in every color (i sure as hell try my damndest).

luckily sprint phones come in fairly small packaging, but the nextel phones have packaging 12x the size.

True a pink Nextel phone would be nice. I sure don't want a pink phone but I was thinking about getting one for my girlfriend and she has Nextel. She always talks about getting a Razr or Katana because of how thin they are and becasue of the color choices. Pink is her favorite color too. She has not got one of those phones for 2 reasons... Direct Connect and Durable construction. She drops her phone all the time, I've seen her do it. And she doesn't even have a ruggedized phone. She has the i275! Its pretty strong for a basic model. I hope Nextel makes phones with more color choices cuz that's one thing I hear a lot of people talk about. Everyone in my family in fact and they ALL have Nextel! Pink should be the first color to readd to the li...
