This move kind of baffles me. Why not go with T-Mobile, like so many other HTC models, and let this go with the T-Mobile market to combat the I-Phone craze?

because there is no 3g on tmobile yet and this phone is strictly 3g. If you want a iphone killer and if it makes you any happier tmobile will soon get the HTC touch

I'm not really pumping up T-Mobile, although i do use them b/c my unlimited data plan for work is half of what it would be with Cingular/AT&T. My company actually caters heavily to the Cingular/AT&T market... and this just didn't make sense to me as far as the marketability of the product.

I did completely miss the "only 3G" portion of the phone though, thanks.

I think he meant strictly 3G in that it's video share feature need 3G to work. It's really designed to work on a 3G network.
The phone itself does GSM,GPRS/EDGE quad band. So it will work on T-Mobile and any GSM carrier. It doesn't need 3G to operate. If that were the case it wouldn't even work on AT&T as they don't have 3G everywhere yet.

But it would be a bit of a waste to put it on a non 3G carrier. The Herems (TyTn/8525) is good enough for GSM.

Because it doesn't have TM's 3g, AT&T has a larger user base, and a vastly larger business user base in the US.

Huh?

Because HTC is in the business of selling phones through carriers and AT&T is the US carrier with the most users - thus, the most potential sales.

T-Mob doesn't have an operating 3G network yet so who is going to ante up the extra bucks for a 3G phone whose 3G advantages the user cannot access?

Right, and its up to TM to get this phone, doubtful there's an exclusive on it. Its also up to TM to get HTC to provide TM's up and coming 1700umts in this phone.

Its not up to you, me or any user of any service to decide who gets the Kaiser, its up to the carrier.
