Rich: Slow web?
Rich, other online blogs said that the internet was fast on 3G and on EDGE. Maybe the device you had was bad, or your local coverage area wasn't 100%.

T-mobile is not even halfway done with its 3g rollout. Its quite possible he was not in a good 3g coverage area. Considering the speed of the processor and Tmo's 3g is actually (3.5) I wonder if he was running on Edge.

Guys - The 3G indicator of the G1 was on and blinking like mad during Web use. When I turned off the 3G radio, the 3g symbol disappeared entirely. I am positive I was using T-Mobile's 3G network.
Also, I mentioned in the review that I tested a Sony Ericsson TM506 right next to the G1. Both were using the same T-Mo 3G. The SE was fast, the G1 was slow...

I've been using the phone out here in Southern California and have had really fast speeds with the browser. The only page I have issues with is myspace, which is slow anyways.
With the TM506 were you using the default browser or Opera Mini4.1?

I was also really shocked to read that part of the review.
I use a Blackberry right now. The store I work in has a G1 available for anyone to use, but I don't live in a 3G area. The internet speeds with the G1 are faster than they are on my Blackberry using EDGE which is saying something considering it's loading a lot more data. Even on EDGE, it only takes 10-15 seconds to load up Google's home page. Maybe you just had a defective unit.

well im in a "good" tmobile coverage area. and the internet was not impressive. the phone didn't even have that wow feature. the best part was maybe the street view i was able to show everyone my neighborhood in new york but that was fast like they made it out to be. i would say the screen was the only thing that wowed everyone the most after that people got tired of it and gave me more time to examine the phone. The training for the phone was informative to most that don't know much about phones but everything trainers told us i already knew.

Yeah waiting is good. Lots of variables. I found the device to be pretty quick while browser.
