On the contrary, I think all cellphone companies need apply.

Like it or not, wireless is going to be the medium through which all of our communications/data needs are going to be met in the future. Internet, cable, purchases, etc are all going to be delivered to us wirelessly to devices that make our current cellphones look absolutely archaic. Korea and Japan are countries that are on the cusp of all this and even they haven't begun to truly tap the potential.

Right now is a great time to make sure that our data networks remain open, no matter who the carrier- and I think the best way to do this is make sure that all carriers try to get a piece of this action. It forces them to open their networks and work together to maintain t...

I think the original poster was talking about VZW's proprietary nature and how they don't allow other carriers to roam on their EVDO network

Which is precisely why we need them to join in the use of this spectrum. The ruling essentially forces them to open up their network model. Give them three years under an open model and everybody else will follow(and compete.)
