...is the lack of communication on Dobson's part.
I work for an independent Cell One dealer and found out about the buyout on the news - we weren't told anything about this at all beforehand, and I'm sure the buyout is going to have a huge effect on everyone! Customers are going to have an awful lot of questions about the future after finding out about this in the news, and as a dealer we have no answers yet. Very frustrating, and a very bad move for Dobson.

I work in the call center in OKC and i read the other day on this site about a potential buyout and everret did send out a company wide email to all employees before it was final and announced the sale. this company has been exploring buyouts for as long as i have been there and was told by others that have been there 5+ years this was being looked into and i guess i am ot surprised but i am very upset and concerned and hope i and my fellow co workers get to keep there jobs in the call center. does anyone know how at&t or cingular usually handle it when they buyout a carrier to they keep them or lay them off. any info would be great.

Not to worry you but I believe that they laid off approx. 5000 workers. They weren't dealers as far as I know. Probably TDMA field techs and the like. It's the most horrible suprise to get. I worked for AT&T Wireless and found out here on PhoneScoop that we were being purchased before hearing anything at work. They kept referring to it as a "merger" although that wasn't exactly the case. Cingular was moving in a direction I personally didn't agree with so I didn't know if I was going to stay on or not. Then, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) started hanging around and told us that "All of Cingular's employees were members and we would have to pay dues once the buy-out was complete." I don't know if this was true but after reading t...

Well, in any case, AT&T Wireless was almost a dead company when Cingular purchased it (it was very quickly dying, especially with the problem that prevented it from signing up GSM customers for several months in 2003).

If it's anything like a bank merger, the company will normally try to shuffle employees to new jobs and keep those job cuts to attrition.

I work with bank mergers, and I can say that job cuts as a net number are not always as bad as initially expected. In the case of one bank merger, jobs were cut as the headquarters of the smaller bank were assimilated into the headquarters of the larger bank, however, the larger bank began offering a full scale a unique product from the smaller bank, and the total number of jobs cre...

I work in customer care for Dobson, and the customers usually don't have questions about anything until their phones actually start to read att, I'd say a good 5% will actually even inquire about it, which Customer care has been advise to tell the customer's bout, so you dealers as always we will hold your little hands and wipe your little noses and us in customer care will certainly take care of you, as we always do. Hopefully att will let us use our pto as we want to if they hire us on.

🙄 I work in a Cellular One retail store, and we as well have been advised on how to answer customer concerns. Haven't had the first person ask about it yet! Don't think too many customers will...no need to panic as of yet!

I'm not panicked about it - I just think it would have been smart of Cell One to get some info out to its independent dealers. Had a few people ask about it today, actually.

Well, until the acquisition legally closes, the companies are required to operate as if no acquisition is planned, and to do otherwise is unlawful.

I don't know, I had a few people ask about it today and all I could tell them was that we haven't been given any info on it yet.

What's with the snark? 😕
