AT&T Enhances EDGE Network Ahead of iPhone Launch
Correction?

I think it should say... Verizon has upgraded it's EV-DO NETWORK to Rev A, not it's entire network. There are still areas without EV-DO...
An ATT guy is complaining about areas not covered by another carrier's 3G network? ๐ณ
Dude, ATT is a year, year and a half behind Verizon and Sprint in 3G deployment... your own CEO even admits in interviews.
Worry about the ATT 3G network... its the one that needs the help. Yeesh.
From my information, 80% of Cingular's "high-speed" network is powered by its 2.5G EDGE network.
Sprint Mobile Broadband (400-700kbps) is 5 times faster than Cingular's EDGE (70-135kbps)
In terms of wireless broadband coverage, Sprint covers three times more people (153 million vs. 47 million), four times more cities (5,138 vs. 1.092) and five times more airports (486 vs. 95) than Cingular's broadband network, BroadbandConnect.
Dude do your research before you open your mouth.
It would be like comparing a Nokia 6010 to a LG g4011

now compare the new edge (200kbps) to verizon and sprints 1xrtt and then tell me the comparisons of speed and coverage!!! and then when your done tell me battery life between the 2 ๐คฃ SUCKER!!!
Why would you compare Edge with 1xRTT, when Sprint and Verizon's EVDO 3G covers around 200 million people? ๐
Prolly the reason why Sprint guy compared Edge to EVDO is because ATT's 3G network still doesn't cover that many people... '160 markets' but nowhere near as many people as Sprint or Verizon's 3G networks cover. So many ATT customers are still on sloooow EDGE... ๐ข
Point is, the majority of Americans can access EVDO now, soon the vast majority. This is way better 3G coverage than what ATT has. And you can get an EVDO-capable phone for FREE these days. ๐
'1xrtt-only' phones are getting harder to find... mostly only trimode phones or old phones due to be discontinued soon.
Meanwhile, Edge still is very important for ATT, because their 2.5G coverage is light-years better than their still-lame 3G network coverage. And Edge of course is blown away by EVDO speeds, even more so now that Verizon is all Rev A EVDO.
Face it, when it comes to 3G, ATT/Cingular i...

Actually the reality is that ATT's Edge network has better download speeds than Verizon and Sprint in many areas and with 3G in over 160 markets it is far and away superior to both Verizon and Sprint.
Dude, you need to stop smoking your talking point papers. ๐ณ
EDGE= 75-135 kbps (that's what's listed on ATT's OWN SITE). With their recent 'Fine EDGE' improvements, they may have gotten it up to 200 kbps or so. Big whoop.
Verizon's EVDO Rev A= 600 kbps to 1.4 Mbps. Read the article... their entire 3G network is all Rev A now. EDGE = blown-away, speed-wise.
ATT's 3G 'superior'? ROFLMAO. Their 3G coverage is still so bad that they won't tell you how many people are covered by their 3G. Veri...

No dude... just no. Not even close to being true.
EDGE is nowhere near as fast as EV-DO and never will be. EV-DO Rev. A spanks EDGE's ass red and raw in speed tests. HSDPA is comparable to Rev. A but is no where near as widespread as EV-DO (yet).
As of right now VZW and Sprint are "far and away" better than AT&T for wireless data.
