Sprint Rebrands, Drops Nextel From Name

My problem with this is the dropping of the Nextel branding altogether when it isn't necessary. Why drop a brand name that is successful? Ford isn't doing that with its company, which is in WORSE shape than Sprint.
I can see no longer saying "SprintNextel", or "Sprint, together with Nextel", but not just "Sprint" for all products and services. That would be like years ago if White Consolidated Industries had called "Weed Eater" brand weed trimmers "WCI Trimmers".
Sprint walkie-talkies is about as unimportant sounding as that. A funny side-note to this example; WCI eventually changed its name to "Frigidaire", because they felt that name was more consumer...
