STILL NO ISSURANCE!!

I still can't image myself buying a phone that priced sooo high, only a 2g device, and not be able to put insurance on it. I think Apple should have not been so picky and gone with a career that allows insurance on a PDA phone. Anyone know who does? If so, tell Apple plz.

it's not apple, it's cingular. the phone is being classified as a pda/smartphone, which at&t/cingular does not insure. i think someone said that apple is offering its own separate insurance on the phone, but i'm not sure. let me look around before you take my word on that one.

Is it actually Cingular? I thought it was actually the insurance companies (Lockline, etc) who were unwilling to insure high end devices just because it's too costly for them.

i don't know how it works exactly. i'm with/work for sprint so i know nothing of cingular's insurance policies and procedures, etc.

still trying to find the mention of the apple care insurance, but there's a lot to go through and like i said i'm not sure i actually read it.

Apple Care isn't like the lockline insurance though. It just extends your original warranty, it doesn't cover theft or water damager or accidental damage, at least not the one for MacBooks, which is the only one I've looked at.

But Apple may offer Applecare, that will help on repair, but loss, you will take the hit. I would see if you can get some rider on your homeowners insurance.

It is Cingular. I'm pretty sure both Cingular and T-Mobile use Asurion for their handset insurance, and I know T-Mobile allows insurance on a PDA/smartphone.

well if cingular uses asurion then i would say it's definitely cingular that's determined pda's/smartphones as uninsurable. sprint uses asurion, too, and we insure all our phones/pda's/smartphones.

It is Asurion (aka Lockline) that Cingular/Att use. I was on the phone with ATT and Asurion on conference trying to figure out which one has deemed pda/smartphones uninsurable and still got no satisfaction. I personally have one of the lower end smart phones (Blackjack) and would like to have the assurance to know if it were stolen I would be covered.

My proposition is that they either make the initial monthly fee higher or the deductible higher for the more expensive phones. It doesn't seem fair that other carriers Sprint, Verizon, TMobile allow the coverage on the more expensive phones but it is not available for those of us who prefer to have either better coverage or better customer experience or what ever the reason for having ATT.

Cingular/AT&T uses Lockline, which doesn't insure high-end devices and/or PDAs. Why? Who knows, who cares - most insurance companies that offer insurance on anything other than cars or homes will have a small electronics policy specifically for expensive gadgets.

Why would anyone remotely familiar with Cingular/AT&T policy even begin to suspect there would be insurance? 🙄

It's ATT that is not allowing PDA insurance not the insurance company. Lockline = Asurion (they changed their name back the end of 2006) which does insure PDAs for both Sprint and T-Mobile

And verizon! I just got a new treo 650 from Asurion about 2 months ago--no questions asked. They were actually very pleasant to deal with.

There's no way I would ever go with a company that wouldnt insure smart phones...its ridiculous. If cost is an issue, charge an extra buck or two for PDA phones. As much money as they are making off of this insurance, they should allow all phones to be insured.

That's not true. I just bought the Sprint Mogul and I have it insured thru Lockline. I guess you're saying my phone isn't high end and/or a pda.

They're saying that Asurion is willing to insure high end smartphones (because they do so for Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile) but Cingular doesn't allow it. You're actually confirming the statement.

Not really sure what offering insurance on devices has to do on taste...?? Maybe at&t's customers are more responsible than Verizon's customers? Indeed, they are on at&t, which shows they are responsible with their rollover minutes. Unlike, all of you Verizon customers who waste your minutes each and every month. 🙂

Anyway, Assurion does insure PDA/Smartphones IF the wireless carrier allows it. Basically, it's up to at&t not to insure the PDA/Smartphones. The reason, from what I understand, that at&t doesn't allow insurance is because they make such a large profit on their insturance plans that they would rather keep that money and use it to their advantage. Is it inconvenient for the consumer? Probably. Does it affect business ...

Probably too different for them to wrap their heads around. Wi-fi would scare them.

Somehow, I doubt that Apple would have consented to trusting the coverage of the device to anything but AppleCare, which has generally been a driving force behind their brand loyalty.
