AT&T Looks Beyond HSPA
WOW!!!
By aggressive, I mean, the network, the services, and the handsets, will be way, way different by this time next year, and maybe even surprise us.
So,. . . do you think AT&T is more aggressive than Cingular???
Personally, I think it's way too early to tell.
Though I understand Sprint will only be starting out with I think 3mbps, which to me, is exceptable, heck, a lot better than 400-700kbps what Cingular is currently offering!!!!!
the EV-DO feature of CDMA2000 networks is significantly faster, providing access to mobile devices with air interface speeds of up to 2.4 Mbit/s with Rev. 0 and up to 3.1 Mbit/s with Rev. A. HSDPA a competing technology for W-CDMA, along with the new Qualcomm Rev A modems have the ability to maintain both circuit switched voice and packet data calls from the same radio, this functionality is not available in Qualcomm Rev. 0 chipsets.
and sprint cant do voice and data at the same time like at&t
I'm holding off for 3 or 4 mbps.
What I don't understand, HOPEFULLY somebody can explain this to me. Cingular has an aircard called the Sierra Wireless 875, which like you said "theoretically capable of 3.6mbps". I'm not interested in this theoretical stuff. only interested in real world speeds, and average speeds and so on!
But anyway, the Sierra is capable of 3.6mbps, but yet Cingular's website ONLY advertises 400-700kbps. I'm never going to pay for that speed!!! That speed just isn't good enough!!!
Am I right?
And have you done a bandwidth test @ a website like:

Well, theoretically, carriers don't have "dead spots" in outdoor coverage in their deployed areas, but we all know that all carriers have dead spots.
Speed will also depend on signal. Nobody wants to advertise "great speed" when you will only get "great speed" with a strong signal when there are not a lot of users.
Cable is the same way...the more users there are in a node, the slower it will...

I refuse to pay $60/mo and ONLY get 400-700kbps for my $60!!!
If you know someone in your area that uses the 875 on Cingular, invite them over for a LAN party or something, and test the signal where you'd use it most. I've heard mixed reviews about data services from the carriers...that Sprint is OK, but it's coverage is VERY limited, and that Cingular's WCDMA coverage is aweseome, but again limited (EDGE has better coverage than Sprint tho), that Verizon's is "up and down" and speed degrades with user traffic.
And another thing to keep in mind: Signal strength on your cell phone isn't necessarily and indicator of signal strength of data. 3G services are a differe...

the new AT&T is run by EXACTLY the same people that Cingular was. It's just a name change. Don't confuse it with when Cingular bought AT&T Wireless and converted them to Cingular. That was another company buying another company so things changed.
The only other difference now is AT&T (formerly SBC) owns 100% of the wireless carrier, and can make decisions they see fit, unlike Verizon Communications, who is still having trouble trying to get Vodafone to sell their stake in Verizon Wireless.

And why would Vodafone want to sell their stake in a profitable carrier when that would mean if they wanted to stay in the U.S. market, they would have to start from scratch or acquire another carrier. It's almost like buying the house next door when you don't want to move...
meh, go att
they are to expensive for me (i use cricket and am trying out sprint), but definately a great company

except sprint wimax!!!!
Nothing's stopping the new Sprint
I'm Sprint all the way, but WiMax doesn't mean anything if you don't have the customer base to use it and pay for it...

Or the network to actually run it.
How many people does Sprint's current WiMax coverage cover?
Until it does, it's vaporware. Not to say it's not coming, but until it does, and actual tests are performed, it's all speculation.
D.C., Baltimore, heck, where else???????
Usually when a new network is launched, somewhere's around 12-16 cities are part of the initial launch.
Like I said, as far as I know, only a few cities will have WiMax upon launch.
I care about the real world. Where I can actually go to a local Sprint store, and buy a WiMax enabled data card for my laptop.
So whether it's WiMax, or whether it's mobile payments, or mobile tv. I only care about the real world, not testing.
Do you know if Las Vegas is going to be one of the launch cities???
But whenver the day ever gets here that REAL speeds are available wirelessly, I will most certainly snatch me up an aircard!!!
But until then, I'm staying with Cox, who overs plenty good enough speeds.
I believe Cingular ONLY offers 400-700kbps, all I have to say to that is, NO THANK YOU!!!
Do you actually have a bandwidth test yourself?
What city do you live in?
I live in Las Vegas.
And no, I don't "NEED" wireless internet, I just want it, I'm a bored security guard, who would like to bring my laptop to work! Heck yes!!!! 😁
Am I right, all that uplink is good for is like if you've got a webcam,...right?
Those speeds are very attractive. And tempting.
Damn it!!! Too bad those speeds aren't available from Cingular, I hate procrastinators, with a passion, "Deliver the future,...or die!!!" I mean die as a business.
