We spoke directly to Sony Ericsson. The facts as they appear in the article are correct. The K850 is a quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/EDGE, tri-band HSDPA phone.

If this is true, then hoorah! Why the hell did SE not list this on the spec sheet??? I hope they change it and make it "official." Here:

now that they know the specs are published incorrectly, i'm sure they will work on fixing them. however can we all agree it's a relief to know for sure* that it is quad band edge plus tri band hsdpa? same as the z750, which should launch much sooner than this one (we hope).

I'm curious if AT&T has enough BRAINS to pick up a REAL cameraphone into their linup?????

I also wonder how many MB's of a pic can be sent as an MMS, because higher rez pictures would be more data, like 700kb's, or 1mb or more. So, I wonder how much they'll let us send as an MMS???

For both my SE K750 and W710 the device asked me if I wanted to resize the photo before sending is as a MMS or in an email. I believe my W710 makes the photo 640x480 from 1600x1200 if you decide to resize.

That's quite a bit! So another words MMS's only as big as 30kb's.

I don't understand why now that there are widespread 3G networks, MMS files can't be upped to 300kb's or more.

A 3G handset can handle that just fine!

Well you can send it bigger. It's not an auto-resize.

If you say no the phone asks, "Recipient might not be able to view one of more items...Continue?" but you can and send it bigger.

Oh, what kind of bigger, do you know the max size? And in what circumstances would the recipient not be able to view it?

I have a 3G handset, but it's not a U.S. 3G handset, the Sharp V903, UMTS, and it is capable of I think a 300kb MMS, it just doesn't have the proper setting for Cingular MediaNet unfortunatly.

My phone is from Vodafone, but I have a Cingular sim in there.

The feature is an SE on so I am sure I assume they have an idea on what to do. I suspect the max size is carrier dependent though.

I normally resize if I am doing a mms and send the full pic later if the person wants or send the full pic via email right away.

The pics my k750 took were better than my w710 [with no flashlight the pics are darker overall] so I don't use my w710 as a standalone camera as much.

This stuff about the carriers limiting the data size of MMS's makes me mad, because in these days with 3G handsets and so on, HSDPA chipsets can very easily handle sending, and recieving videos longer than 30 frinkin seconds, or picture upwards of 700kb or more.

its not that the 3g handsets cant handle them or that the network limits them... cingular charges 25 cents per message Picture & Video messages over 300KBs will be billed additional charges. at 1 cent per kb... a 1MB picture will cost ohh about $7.50

argument 2 is that a nokia 6102i for example; only has 4.2MB if memory, thats NOTHING in todays world so you have to compinsate for that also!

Oh, so they will let you send a higher res pic, it'll just cost more, . . . I thought there was a limit, I hate limits.

Yeah, 4.8mbs is crap. But most newer phones have memory card slots. Life is so good with a memory card, I can drag and drop pictures to my memory card, and use them as wallpapers.

I just looked up the specs, I like it, a lot.
Yet another high-quality cameraphone that Cingular COULD-HAVE picked up, but didn't!!! Gosh this pisses me off, it really does.

Anyway, the only gripe I can see is it looks like the battery could be better, only 690mah.

There's no GSM 850 there, but Telestra offers UMTS 850.

There *is* GSM 850. This has been confirmed by a PhoneScoop editor who called SE this morning. Read all the threads, it's called "From The Horse's Mouth" I believe.

I know it's been settled, just wondering... it would work there without the GSM 850.
