Somebody PLEASE tell me that this phone will have symbian on it. Then I can finally look forward to a phone coming out again.

I love my symbian phone!

Symbian in itself doesn't mean much to the user, since it's an "under the hood" thing... like "Intel Inside" (except software).

The UI isn't Symbian, it's UIQ, which is quite different from the S60 interface that Nokia uses on their Symbian-based phones.

Let's clarify which phone we're talking about to avoid confusion. The K850i has it's own SE interface.

I just assumed LamaZ meant the Symbian UIQ one: the W960. We said it was Symbian UIQ. The others aren't, or we certainly would have mentioned it.

hey Rich, I thought, or so it seems, that Symbian is mostly only on Nokia's high-end handsets. Which by the way are the only handsets from Nokia worth having are the N-Series handsets.

I've never heard of any NON Nokia handset that has Symbian.

Not true at all.

Nokia S60 phones (Symbian-based) are the only Symbian phones marketed in the States, but Sony Ericsson's P-series phones (P800, P900, P990, P1, etc.) are all UIQ devices. UIQ is another Symbian-based platform just like S60. It's a different UI and platform, but the Symbian part - the core OS - is exactly the same.

The new Motorola RIZR Z8 is another UIQ Symbian device.

Tons of Japanese feature phones also have a Symbian core OS. The UI is standard feature phone menus, (well, for Japan,) but the core OS is Symbian.

Off topic, but do you know if the RIZR Z8 will ever come with US frequencies? Damn this 850

I'm pretty sure the Z8 is quad-band GSM.
