* GSM 900
* GSM 1800
* GSM 1900
* HSDPA
* UMTS 850
* UMTS 1900
* UMTS 2100

Supports UMTS850, but not GSM850.

That is most definitely a typo. No way it could support UMTS 850 and not gsm 850...

That's what it says on both the US site and the corporate site.

I'm not saying you are wrong. I saw the same thing.

I am just saying it's useless in the US for Cingular without GSM 850 and like Eric said with not UMTS 1700 it's not for TMobile.

1700 wont' be rolled out for a while, I'm not concerned about the lack of T3... by the time it is readily available throught the US (via T-Mobile) new SE handsets will likely be released with the 1700 band.

So, is Tmo still on track to launch 3G in the 4th Qtr? Gosh, it's going to be Spring of '09 before they're caught up with AT$T, with 3G handsets.

I don't beleive so - it will be quite a while until it's rolled out in a *decent* amount of markets to warrant purchasing. If you dont live in one of the 10 biggest cities in the US you probably won't have it.

By you don't think so, are you saying they are NOT on track for the 4th Qtr of this year to launch 3G?

Gotta be a mistake. why would you have umts850 and not gsm 850? That would be real stupid. 👿

we received specs this morning from sony ericsson which state this K850 is quad band. i'm calling to confirm, but i have to believe this is an omission on the website. it's highly unlikely a phone would have HSDPA 850/1900 and not GSM 850

True, but on multiple sites (the corporate site AND the regional sites, including the US site), the K850i is listed as having UMTS 850. Not GSM 850. The K850c does not have GSM 850 either on SE's site... This is unprofessional, I hope SE changes one of the sites to clear this up.
Direct from their site:

K850i (UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100-GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900)

So it has for 850 GSM GPRS/EDGE but for UMTS 850 it has HSDPA ...basically rolls both 2.5g and 3.5g in one...
The sites are conflicting. Did you look at the links I provided? The press release states GSM 850 support. The phone specs do not state GSM 850, only UMTS 850. We don't know what it supports at the moment because SE fudged up either their press release, or their spec sheet.

Awesome, let us know. If the i version (K850i) supports both UMTS 850 AND GSM 850, in addition to the HSDPA 2100 band, I'll be very excited... But I have a feeling there is no GSM 850 coverage based on what SE has done in the past. US users get shafted once again... 👿

You need both 850 and 1900. One is the uplink one is the downlink.

According to a new thread just posted, the spec sheet is wrong, and the K850i has both quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA antennas. REJOICE!!! 😁

I know SE has shafted US customers before but I think is has as much to do with how Cingular F's with them and their fued with TMO.

There is really NO reason to have UMTS 850 without GSM 850 as the UMTS signal is built upon the GSM signal.
