Sprint Seeks Funding For WiMax Network
Sprint=Welfare
Also... I would like to point out that Qualcomm is the one funding the MediaFLO coverage that is VCAST TV.
Also, all T-Mobile USA needs to do is ask it's parent in Germany for $$$, but yeah, T-Mobile is way, way, way behind.
Anyway, I understand Cingular is going to be using Qualcomm's MediaFLO technology also, and supposedly Cingular is launching MobileTv in the 4th Qtr of this year, I just hope that ends up being the case.
Cingular isn't controlling of they're handsets!!
Cingular has rollover.
I've been with Cingular for 5 and a half years.
Heck, we pay enough as it is for both minutes, and data, any bit helps!!!
Sprint's continued investment in the antiquated Nextel network is the biggest joke ever. Sprint should have concentrated on Qchat, then migrated Nextel over to Sprint, and shut down Nextel, then being able to focus on EV-DO and WiMax.
Maybe Sprint management sees a bright future in iDEN? I'm surprised there's any future in iDEN.

I have an unlocked phone also, the Sharp V903.
And I pay my bill over the automated system, so I very rarely deal with any cust. service reps.

Wow, i will agree that sprint sucked a few years ago, but you must compare to the here and now. Sprint has great coverage. In fact, they are nearly identical to verizon, who has "the largest voice network" Cingular falls short of both of them on data and voice coverage because of them being GSM. Now for those complaining that sprint is crappy for needing to get more funding, wow lets know what we are talking about before we speak. Thats what big boys do!! Every carrier gets funding some way or another to build out, and what is even funnier is that sprint is the only company that owns every tower on there network. You cannot say that about verizon or cingular, they rent tower space. So just because sprint has a ...

And by the way, I wouldn't consider Cingular's 3G network all that new anymore really, it covers a lot of networks now, and they have a good selection of 3G handsets now,. . . so personally, I wouldn't consider Cinulars 3G network all that new.
T-Mobile though, has a whole lot of catching up to do though, heck, it'll be the 1st QTR of 2009 by the time they're anywhere close to Cingular, when it comes to 3G handsets.
The reason why Cingular has more towers is because the coverage radius of a GSM tower isn't as large as that of a CDMA tower.
In a market where Sprint, Verizon, or Cingular have a high market share (where it's penetrated), they may have to add additional towers to grid to help with capacity. No matter how much spectrum you have, there is a limit on how many users a tower can have. Plus, sometimes companies add additional towers not for spectrum relief, but for coverage where they receive adequate customer complaints.
Sprint isn't stupid on tower placement, and neither is Verizon or Cingular.
Plus, sometimes companies would like to add towers in areas, but there is a huge outrage from local residents, (NIMBY's...Not In My Back Yard). When there is too much protest or zoning isn't right, the ...

I am not as familiar with Sprint but if VZW was so analog dependent as you claim, then why the hell have we been phasing out tri-mode phones for the past 3 years? AT LEAST 90% of all the phones VZW sold the past 12 months have been all digital, yet people still get reception all in all the spots our coverage maps claim.
I know you're anti CDMA but if your gonna bash it at least have something more credible than that. 🙄
Plus, AT&T and Verizon make a killing on their wireless businesses, so I wouldn't worry about whether they rent or own towers, as long as the coverage is there. Sprint relies on Alltel and Verizon for a lot of roaming...Sprint doesn't own those towers!
I can't speak for Sprint nationwide, but in Florida they get tons of complaints. Everyone I know has Cingular, so there are some overlaoding problems every now and then, but they seem to add capacity to help. Verizon is neutral here, it's not one of their strongest parts.
For some people, it doesn't really matter whether or not there is roaming coverage in Europe or Africa. But for some people, coverage is priceless, and CDMA carriers can't match the GSM carriers. It all depends on the individual.
Maybe sometime in the future, CDMA2000 and LTE will end up being able to merge, but I doubt Qualcomm would allow that. Oh well.
