So companies have until August 8th to get new phones imported and for sale...

I can't wait to see the deluge of devices pouring into the stores that shouldn't be released yet, then the waves of warranty exchanges that will take place so users can get updated software.

I think Qualcomm and Broadcom should be forced to take a time out and sit in opposite corners for 1 week. 🙄

yeah i can definitely see a big boom in new releases 🙂 60 days is also a good amount of time for them to search for a new manufacturer for their 3g cards.

The problem with searching for a new manufacturer is that the Qualcomm chip is the BEST by far for any CDMA network. Nokia and Moto have both made CDMA chips and there are a multitude of problems. Take for instance the Razr V3m that Sprint carries. When bringing up the contact list, its delayed 10-15 sec, the Internet provisioning tends to delete itself, and the phone signal/battery life is horrible compared to the GSM based phone. The only difference in the CDMA and GSM V3m is the network signal chips.

I just hope that Bush doesn't something right for the FIRST time and veto's what the ITC has done.

Yup...the CDMA V3m uses the MSM6500 chipset...that would be a Qualcomm chipset, not Motorola so the poor performance, if it's attributable to the chipset, should be blamed on Qualcomm.

Motorola hasn't produced a CDMA chipset since the days of IS-95 and Nokia's been out of the business for at least a couple of years.

that i do understand, completely. unfortunately if the ban goes into effect they're going to have to look for some alternatives lest they find themselves in a bind.

i wouldn't hold my breath on the bush thing.

The equipment already available is going to keep flowing.. PC Cards are fine as they don't change more than once a year.

The problem is going to be new models of 3G phones and PDA's that use Qualcomm's chipset. Moto makes their own for some GSM/UMTS/HSDPA devices, but the Razr2 uses Qualcomm.. Maybe they already are working on an alternative for the US market...

I bet they push it up to late July even if it isn't ready.

The ITC basically just gave the iPhone a running head start for it's launch. 😁

For the 234,321,931,612 times, the iphone isn't effected by this, it isn't cdma, wcdma or 3g in any way.

I didn't say it was. Which is the point of this post. The ITC, gave the iPhone a running headstart when it banned most of it's competition.

If your going to make smart comments, you should read the entire post and make sure you understand the context! 👿 😲 😳
