This just one symptom in the patent madness in the US, and Qualcomm is as guilty as Broadcomm in different areas and with different companies. Everything today has a lock solid patent, be it software, hardware, idea's and even your bodies genetic makeup. If you found you can get to work faster if you chew gum, you patent the idea, the moron's in Washington grant you a patent and now, you charge everyone for doing the same. Heck, trade stocks using a certian system, you're violating someone's patent.

While we are messing around with this, the rest of the world is laughing and passing us.

I for one now believe in not buying American products whenever possiable until they solve their nutcase patents laws. Support overseas companies, when profits and stockmarkets drop, the true gods of America, then the President and Congress will listen.

blame our "American companies" for laying off people and shifting labor to 3rd world countries, not the consumer, and we cant help that everything is produced overseas and we have a cartel of private bankers( FEDERAL RESERVE)inflating our currency to impossible physical proportions to support this. and welfare isnt apparently a problem, the gov't loves it, more taxes to collect

how can not buying american products send us into a depression when almost every thing we use is imported from China and this is your super red, white and blue companies, thats right, American companies doing this. you have the slightest idea how the depression even came about and before you sound super nationalistic, know something before making an uneducated alarmist statement

Well, I partially agree...I tend not buy American products because often they do not match the quality of foreign products. That doesn't mean to boycott American products. Toyota, for example, has a reputation of reliability and has invested heavily in manufacturing in the United States. Computer companies outsource production of many items to Asia (Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Thailand, etc.) Many companies use Chinese ingredients in food and pharmaceuticals (which we all know China is not known for quality with food or drug.)

So, it all depends. It's a world market now. And in such a world market, Qualcomm is not the only company, but in the United States, it will hurt because it is a leader my market share.

i think we(American companies) dont do enough R&D, overseas companies spent s*&tloads of money on R&D, all we are focused on is turning a profit on garbage, im a GSM person because i support open-standards, and CDMA technology is phenomenal but crippled and proprietary because of a patent pushing company, Qualcomm.

Government regulation yes, stupid consumers is a maybe, most, the vast majority of the mobile phone users just want to make calls, they don't even care about texting, never mind 3g, and ya know, thats OK.

Here, myself included are far more interested on what goes on with mobile technology and phones. Not sure which is better?

the stupid customers comment is for customers who refuse to accept that phones cost money to produce.
