What chip set does the iPhone use? That would be pretty funny (to me as a Sprint guy) if after all this time AT&Tular couldn't sell the iPhone because of this. 😛 😎 😈

None of the chipsets that are affected by the ban. I'm sure those guys in Cupertino are licking their chops not going 3G.

I think if the HSDPA handsets do not use Qualcomm chips, then they are still allowed in the United States.

Yes that is true, but very difficult to say which phones unless you actually look at their specs because Qcom has their chips in HSPA. (They have a 35% market share.)

Highly unlikely as Qualcomm is only manufacturing chipsets for HSDPA / WCDMA capable handsets. This is an instance where having EDGE won't be a downside for the iPhone, but only this instance.

This is not a 3G device thus it is not going to be ban from the ITC ruling.

And to think, everyone was putting down Apple and Cingular for not making it 3G... I bet everyone is very happy now since it isn't 🤣

I am still unhappy that AT&T and Apple did not come up with a 3G model but they are playing it right as consumers will bite on older technology newer devices first before they upgrade to the 3G model. They need to come out with a 3G device soon though.

True, with the Qualcomm ban, it will not happen quite for some time since there will be no need to compete...

Most likely using Broadcoms 2.5G GSM chipset.

However, at&t will be able to convert to using Broadcom to implement their 3G phones...but Broadcom does not make chipsets for CDMA, since only part of WCDMA has any base of the core of CDMA (and I beleive that part had become open source)

So far, only Qualcom is legally allowed to make chipsets for CDMA, since they never let anyone else make them due to some kind of trademark..So this will leave Sprint maybe scrambling to switch over to WiMax sooner than expected and leave Verizon dead in the water...unless they can find something new and fast.
