Not necessarily. We will either see Qualcomm cave Broadcom's demands due to pressure from the carriers because they want to launch their new 3G handsets, or if the ban is drawn out for an extended period of time (which I highly doubt) we will see manufacturers turning to other chipset providers.

Honestly, I would like to see the latter happen, competition allows for a much faster paced development of new technologies and services.

Have to say my friend I doubt that other manufactures will use other chipset providers besides Qualcomm as they have many patents and it is tough to go against them. I think we will see something happening in the next 60 days. I think the government would veto. This hurts everyone so I think it is in the parties’ best interest to somehow come to some kind of settlement or else if there would be a veto Broadcom does not get anything besides for the $20 m (x3 for treddible) that was awarded to them. I am a shareholder of Qualcomm but I just wanted to say that this hurts Broadcom more because injunctions only hurts the company like Broadcom as they cannot collect on the royalties. Injunctions are not good and when the government is involved, u...

As for corporate America, you reap, what you sow. This is only part of the American patent mess as the whole world passes us in technology and laughs at us.

Actually, it's just a case of one major conglomerate ignoring the other's patents.

Correct...the patent on how a chip allows the device to conserve energy when not in range of a tower is pretty specific, not like Verizon's patent on using VoIP to interface with a telephone.

Qualcomm fanboys cry a different tune when Qualcomm takes patents on other things, like WCDMA. What goes around comes around. Qualcomm has been using those patents it was eventually awarded in Europe to bully companies for choosing other than the CDMA2000 family of technologies. Now, it seems, someone is able to bully Qualcomm in return.
