Depends on the market but I'm guessing their EV-DO is mostly Sprint with Verizon throwing them some 1xRTT love.

Interesting. Do me a favor. You have a Sprint aircard? If so, do a bandwidth test, here, go to this site:

And let me know the results.

Ah.

I am in no rush to get an aircard from ANY of the wireless carriers, not until the speeds are ABOVE megabit speeds, I'm sick of these speeds that are 10yrs old.

I'm holding out for 2 or 3mbps.

I'm pretty sure 10 years ago we were using 14.4k modems. I'm not quite sure what speeds you are expecting but that aircard speed is faster then most DSL connections... 🙄

Cox cable offers REAL speeds, not kbps speeds, Cox cable offers 1.5mbps, 6mbps, and 10mbps.

Until there are MEGAbps speeds, I'm not interested.

I'm not interested in 400-700kbps!!!!!

I'm interested in 2mbps, 6mbps, and so on.

Right now, the wireless industry refuses me those speeds, so I don't need an aircard right now, and until they offer the SAME speeds that Cox cable offers, I don't need wireless.

Cox is cable. It is a shared connection. Shared bandwidth. Cox works in your car? and on the highway? The point is mobile internet. It is not shared speed like cable. It is a much safer connections. But I do understand what you are saying. Especially if you are a gamer. Otherwise it is faster than DSL.

Yeah, I know, I do appreciate the "mobile lifestyle"!!! That's for sure! I appreciate being able to place a bid on ebay when somewhere other than home, and being able to check email anywhere.

heck, I don't know where you get such an impression as me being one of those super, super important people who actually works in the wireless industry.

It's nextel18 that is the knowledgable one, that's for sure, him, and Rich Brome.

I'm just an observer,. . .that's all.

I'm not sure how it is with COX, but in general the shared connection on a cable loop is well above the packages they sell, meaning you can almost always get at least 90% of advertised speed unless you are on an overly saturated loop, in that case the cable company should split it up. For example, say there are 10 people in a loop and they all sign up for 10Mb service, they don't all share one 10Mb connection, they all share one 1Gb connection but their individual service is throttled to 10Mb.

Also, cell towers are usually connected by 1 to 3 T1 lines, (2 is most common in 3G) to handle both voice and data, anyone using that tower for data OR voice will take away from the potential bandwidth.

They use the exact same EVDO network as VZ. AT is the largest roaming partner for both Sprint and VZ.

Its not exactly the same EVDO. Sprint has much more rev. A covering its network. Sprint's EVDO rev 0 also covers 40K square miles more then Verizon's EVDO network.

Sprint has no towers north of Nebraska. They have no coverage in SD,(north) WY, ND, MT. Just roaming agreements. Besdies, Sprint is in so much debt, They are trying to get $ anyway they can.

who isnt in debt anymore... why must you pick on sprint...

verizon is in debt because of fios
att from merger
t-mobile probably is too since there is no 3g

if you want a data card then wait till alltel gives one for free and you can roam evdo on sprints for no extra charge but sprint may be in alot of debt but they are the best wireless service for data and the best performer. who else is releasing wimax or has the largest rev a. yeah the voice service isnt that great but the data kicks ass

Bring your Sprint card up north and tell me how good it works. Bet Alltel has it beat. Now with sprint giving up the only thing that kept them #1 in data ( thier major cities). Hmm......

Debt?
Sure in a massive wireless company you get debt. How long ago did Sprint and Nextel merge? How come they still haven't recovered? But you are correct. Every carrier has it's strengths. They just shouldn't sell them off.

buddy are you trying to makes yourself look like an idiot?

if i brought my sprint data card there it would roam on alltel or verizon either 1x or evdo. right now is the perfect time for sprint and alot of people know it, just people like you make it look like thier not. ive kept up with the merger since day 1 and even though they arent complete yet, look at the advancement and the competition. we have dual mode phones which is selling good, evdo services and music downloads is great, cooler phones, qchat and wimax this fall. they are already set in the merger and just needs a good presentation to do it and thats what the new ad adgency is for.

now i dont know whos your provider but if your trying to say to me that sprint isnt fully re...

Did you not read the whole message before you replied? I agree with you that Sprint has the best data. That's why I said that it was awesome for Alltel to get in on it. However in South Dakota outside of towns pop(4k or less). Sprint has no data roaming on any AT towers as of yet. Your right AT did sell and there is a good chance Sprint will be in on it when it is finalized next year. The deal will not be closed until next April(roughly). AT does cover more sq miles than any other carrier. And yes they have only 12mill customers. Where the big dogs are over 50 mill. Sprint is a great company. However, they hurt themselves with this merger. They gave a ton of customers to VZ.

Because Sprint needed Nextel’s assets. They needed their 2.5 GHz and they needed those exclusive rights to Qchat. More importantly, they needed Nextel’ Direct Connect feature and high ARPU. To also increase their spectrum in the 1.9GHz and 800MHz bands. They needed Nextel’s Boost prepaid unit. Sprint started to have some problems with their credit ranking system so they wanted Nextel’s customers who have a very rigid and tight credit profiling system and do not accept the subscribers who cannot pay their bills.

In the rural areas VZ helps out AT with the data. However I just heard that the reason AT is able to go into the major cities is because of an agreement with Sprint. You are correct. It starts 7/1.
